Well, the recent analyst predictions were right... for once. Two bundles, and the better of the two is not cheap...

Quote:
Microsoft Corp. said its next-generation Xbox 360 game console would cost $299 to $399 when the device is launched this holiday season.

The $299 version will come with a wired controller, but will not have the 20-gigabyte hard-disc drive, wireless controller, headset, Ethernet cable and wireless television remote control included in the $399 version.

Man, that kinda sucks. $399 US is gonna be like close to $500 CDN, plus I need to buy a game, I'm looking at over $600.

Well, get the cheaper one then. You can always upgrade later. Most people will buy two controllers, so if you're going to do that you can get the cheap package, buy a wireless controller, and still save $60+. I'm guessing the HDD and remote will only really be useful if you're going to use the 360 as a media server of some sort, and you can always buy them later if you want to.

But it's essentially the same buying power. Why don't Canada people understand this? We aren't getting a deal because our money is worth more compared to yours.

The cost is the same.

There'll be a standard composite or RF output for the console, and all games will work on standard TVs.

Yeah, and if I lived in US, $399 would be a lot for me as well. Didn't really say you're getting a deal. I guess I coulda left out the conversion factor, but I was just running the costs through my head.

Oh, and I read somewhere the component cables come with the more expensive bundle. I'll need those too.

Oh, yeah, I'm not sure exactly what function(s) it'll serve. I'd imagine it'll be a big memory card and will work for downloadable content, but who knows what else.

The harddrive. You can't tell me that games like Oblivion will not make use of the hard drive. And the hard drive will be used for emulating the older Xbox games. How will people save their games? Maybe it comes with a smaller hard drive?

If you don't get the hard drive you'll need a memory card.

And since they haven't fully disclosed how the HDD will be used, it's a little early to say they're screwing over anyone. All the systems games will work without it. Emulation, though, who knows?

MS screwed up not making a HD standard. The caching system in the original Xbox really sped up game load times.

Everyone really should consider the HD version considering emulation game profiles for original games, downloaded content, music storage, and the sheer price of a mem card to save your games.

MS really should have made the $299 system with the 20 GB HD and made a larger capicity (40,60) for the $399.

But if you live in Canada, and aren't far from the US, then you can take advantage of the weak US dollar and pick it up for less than Canadian retail.

$399 isn't much for something that entertains you. I bought a DVD player 4 years ago that costs that much. Suck it up.

20 gig? Pfff. Definately getting the $299 version and holding out for an actual hard drive.
