Default 225/50x16 safe on 16x6.5?

I've read only 1 post that says it is safe to run 225/50x16 compared to the stock 205/55x16. Just wanted to comfirm if this is safe and if it is recommended. I'm on stock 04 rims
Thx for the help

Safe - yes.

Ideal - no. Ideal would be a 16x8" IMO.

and 16x8" ideal would be 235 or 245s. 225 would be tiny.

Probaly still the 225/50-16s. Even though the tread is not completely being best utilized on the 7" wide rim, its still so much wider than the 205/55-16(ideal for a 7" wide rim) as to be the winna.

edit: You could reduce the sidewall height for better gearing as xcdhridr posted. The 225/50 is the closest to stock tire height.

Hmmmm, nope. For high performace driving you want the tread to be the width of the rim or narrower to help eliminate side to side pivot of the tire on the rim. Picture it in your mind and you'll get it.

A 235 should be on an 8.5" and 245 on a 9" IMO.
