Caveat statement:
Over the last year or so, I've used the search engine, read through lots of exhaust posts, and listened to many exhaust sound clips, as well as heard many exhausts at the Exeter Meets, etc. As nice as the sound clips are, it just is not the same as hearing it in person. Most of what I have heard in person is just not for me. Everyone's taste is different. Looking to meet up with someone, if they are willing, who have one of these exhaust part combinations. Choice #1: (preferred set-up) 02 or newer WRX Wagon catless uppipe, any type catless downpipe, any type 2.5" to 3" in size highflow metal substrate 3rd cat, like the Stromung borla hush twin tip catback Choice #2: 02 or newer WRX Wagon catless uppipe, any type downpipe with highflow metal substrate cat, like the MadDad no 3rd cat borla hush twin tip catback It needs to be a wagon since the wagons have a greater issue with cabin resonance of the exhaust sound. The placement of the cat could possibly make a difference in cabin resonance, that is why I have 2 choices. I work in the Bedford/Woburn, MA. area. Anyone interested? SJ

I've got a gutted up-pipe, TXS 4" down pipe, and a 3" cat-less mid-pipe that goes into a 3" BPM TT exhuast. I have a sedan without back seats and you're welcome to come and listen to it any time. I know its not exactly what you're looking for, but its not far off. I'm in Shrewsbury and I attend a lot of local autocrosses.

For anyone who may be interested:
As a base reference; WRX Wagon, with 1st and 2nd cats removed (UP & DP), 3rd cat and stock catback, the sound is a pleasant, deep tone at idle, pleasant at all rev ranges with windows down and pleasant at all rev ranges with windows up. Conversations are never a problem. I met up with one NASOIC member last week and this is a review, by my ears, of their exhaust system: WRX Wagon, STI UP, Bosal DP, no 3rd cat, Borla Hush catback Sounded great. At idle or while driving, the sound was a pleasant deep rumble. You could carry a conversation easily. Only negative side I could see that would be an issue for me was that after a long drive, the rumble would really wear on you and give you headaches. It is not that the sound was loud, but the constant deep tone of the rumble was always there. Would probably be better (less wearing) if there were a 3rd cat installed. |
