Power and speed generally cost lots of money.

How much power are you looking for ?

PS.
I *think* there is/was an Australian company "Carpa" (?) that and one time sold SUPERCHARGERS for the 2.2 Litre Subaru motors. That might be your best (cheapest/least complex) avenue for you to persue. Although grabing a used JDM 2.0 Turbo motor may seem more tempting.

AN EJ20, JDM OR USDM IS Probably Your Best Bet, It Insures That You Will Be Able To Put On Forced Induction Without Many Problems At All, The Ej20 Is One Highly Abused Little Engine With Very Few True Problem Issues On A Regular Basis, The Hassle Is Worth The Insurance Of Dependability

Or you can do a hybrid. I've got an EJ257 shortblock w/ a WRX turbo/IC/exhaust. It starts right up every time on the stock ECU running 7 psi. Pretty fast too - definitely a step up from the EJ22 that I had.

I have a complete EJ22T, still in the car, I am parting the car out due to bad tranny (no reverse) and bad body.
