Default It finally happened, I take it all back.

After reporting problems to my dealer 3000 miles ago that my car would not go into gear and them telling me it was a freak thing, it has locked up for good. They won't go into the tranny on a problem they couldn't reproduce. Will not go into any gear. I did have them document the problem, but I'm 700 miles out of warranty now. Gears are all fine, it's something else I don't pretend to know. The car is well cared for but does have Sti Pink springs and a catback on it. Nothing else has been messed with. SOA will hear from me tomorrow.

I feel the flames of "driver error" but I assure it's not. I'm 30 and have been driving manual Scoobs for a decade. This is my baby and I treat her as such.

Sorry if I ever flamed anyone who had a legit tranny problem....

This will probably be bad for you. My local dealers both told me that SOA is a SOB about out of mileage work. I guess Chevy, etc. will turn a blind eye to the mileage, but SOA goes by the letter of the law. Hope it works out well for you.

fight it. it was a documented problem.

torque converter blew on my 97 dodge dakota somewhere in the 36,500 range (500 out of warranty)

the noises it was making were well documented before and they covered the repair.

we did have to fight though.

Oh, trust me, I'm expecting a fight. Like I said, I took it in while still in warranty with the SAME problem, they couldn't duplicate it and sent me on my way. Now, it's locked for good, 700 miles out of warranty. I spoke to my dealer today and it will be torn down Monday to find the problem and then the area Subaru rep is going to make a call. He did tell me the rep for this area is a real good guy and takes care of folks so we'll see. NO WAY am I paying for this. I reported the problem like a responsible owner would and now what I knew would happen again, did.

UPDATE: Subaru said anything they do at this point would be considered goodwill and that they don't have to do anything even though they didn't fix the problem the first time around. Dealer is tearing down the tranny right now and then the district service rep will make the call. Like I said, the dealer claims the rep is a good guy so maybe he'll take care of it. If they don't, might be time to seek legal counsel.
