(IL) Countdown to Triton
Well here we go the unofficial countdown to the Triton college AutoX. This is where we will try to hype each other up for the next seven days. As well as answer faq and some ufaq.
My question: Car markings - at the other AutoXs we used electrical tape to mark the cars with identifying numbers/symbols. This created a very messy car while racing and an even messier cleanup afterwards. This year I found some "window chalk". Does anyone know if TSSCC or SCCA has anything against using window chalk? Magnetics - According to the nice lady at Northstar Motorsports magnetic numbers are not allowed at SCCA events because "they tend to fly off". Is this true? Does anyone know where we can get a group deal on numbers? (Magnetic or Vinyl?)

Magnets are allowed and reccomended by the SCCA guys. I have been using them along with donnie and dan and have had no problems at all. Just make sure to store them flat so that they don't warp and dry them off if they are wet before storing them. Most events has someone selling them anyways. Tape totally blows, left junk on my car for months.

Heya Andrew, I have had good and bad luck with magnetics. I used to make about 20 sets a year for P*rsche Club guys.
It really depends on the car you are putting them on. For some reason, they stick like glue to the 911 bodied cars, but the 944 bodied cars they would fly off like mad. ( this of course was at some pretty decent speeds though) What I would suggest if you go with magnetics is to keep them VERY clean on the back side and to use a small piece of 2" wide clear tape on the leading edge (with a tab folded over for easy removal) of the mag when installed on the car. Another option is to have your numbers instaled on to a piece of static cling material, this works well. You have to keep these very clean as well. If ya need some numbers cut for the event lemme know.. Hope that helps. Sean |

Hey yeah, I'd be interested in some generic numbers and class markings. Unfortunatly, I havn't been assigned a number yet so..
It looks like rain for Sunday. Should be interesting, assuming they don't cancel the meet. |

The funniest thing about magnets is seeing some dude in a Saturn go to the Magnet guy and spend money on a *****load of magnetic numbers. Then you get the divine pleasure of watching the guy try and put them on.

Triton College
2000 Fifth Avenue River Grove, Illinois 60171 Phone : (708) 456-0300 Web Site : http://www.triton.cc.il.us/ Get driving directions from http://www.mapquest.com - they have it on the left side of their main page where you can enter your location and the destination and get good directions. Basically it is just off of North Ave. (route 64) East of I-290 about 4-4.5 miles. Just turn north on 5th Ave. and you're set. I'll definetly be there and I just bought a new camera so I'll be taking lots of shots. |

Races usually run till sundown.. or @4pm @5pm?? or until someone blows their tranny all over the track. (Hey it happened last year)
Look for North Ave and 5th. Go north on 5th and look for the parking lot on the west side of 5th. Anyone bringing a tarp?? |

I don't have a tarp to bring but I'll ask my buddy if he has one that he could bring... I'll look around for stuff that'll cover our stuff while we're there.
I'm bringing my toolbox, it's not much but it is enough if you're really determined to fix something. I'll even see if I can grab some sockets too since all I really have is open-ends and other misc. tools. |
