I just replaced all 4 spark plugs in MY02 WRX. It has no mods, 57,000 miles on it. The drivers side plugs did not smell at all, and the electrodes were slightly worn out and had an increased gap to .035 (normal is .030). On the passengers side plugs, they both smelled strongly of fuel, but they did not show as much wear as the drivers side plugs. The passengers side plugs were worn to .032 of a gap. None of the plugs looked damaged, and other than the increased gap, they hardly looked discolored or worn. Why do the passengers side plugs smell so much like fuel?
Thanks Josh

check the new plugs after a week or driving and see how they look/smell. you should be fine. if not, you could be having a problem and you might want to check your detination and timing. good luck. |

![]() seriously, it's a matter of timing. iirc the timing order is 1-3-2-4, which means driver's side fires, then passenger's side fires. when you shut the ignition, you'll get a few misfires as the plugs don't spark. sounds like you turned it off right after #3 got a good lightoff. |
