I need some opinions on the MY's of the RS. Ill be getting one in the future and I need some i-club reviews.
First of all, I dont care about the looks and the reason im saying that is because itll be the most often brought up argument. Performance-wise, what differences are there between the new age RS's and the older ones? What other differences are there?

the 02 2.5 body is stiffer. suspension is supposed to be better or maybe it is just the stiffer body that allows it to work better.
the ride is quieter, the materials used in the car are of better quality, the whole car is bigger, taller, and sorry to say heavier. the car is quite a bit heavier. doh! have fun deciding. and you'll like either car a lot. i would suggest spending the extra cash and getting a wrx cause you'll want to turbo the 2.5 any way ![]() |

I had a 2000 OBS and now have 2002 OBS. Okay, they weren't Rally Sports, but they were Imprezas...
The 2002 even tho' a little heavier, is much more solid, smooth riding, the interior is nicer, AND I get better gas mileage on the 2002, even tho' it's an automatic and my 2000 was manual... go figure! |

Well, the engine is the same on both.
As of now there's more parts available for the non-MAF based RS (2000 + 2001) I personally like the exterior better on the older RS, a bit more aggressive, hoodscoop, sideskirts and vents were a nice addition to the older RS, which do not come with the new RS. But, the interior to the new RS kicks the old RS's ass!!! The front seats are sweet butt huggers which make light of cornering, it's pretty spacious for a "Sport Compact" whereas I had to put my legs on the other side of the car when I was in the backseat of the older RS. I eve like the interior scheme better then the WRX, no cheesy carbon Fiber crap laying around everywhere. Plus the new RS has a dimming dome light, mood light for all the ladies in the house ![]() Fog were standard with the pre 2002 RS, now you have to purchase them as an option. It all depends on what you're looking for in the car, aggressive styling and compromised interior, or "modern" I think is a nice word for it, with a sweeeeeeet interior. Hope that helps Bry. |

If you don't care about the looks, go with the '02. I personally like the looks of the previous generation Impreza, but the new one is growing on me. Before I ordered my WRX, I test drove an '01 RS. I also had an '01 OBS for a 4 days when my WRX was having leather and short throw installed.
The new body has a MUCH nicer ride. You feels more solid and rigid. It is heavier but it feels so much better it is well worth it, mho. |

hm... first decide the price, what's the different between the old and the new? if you get the old, then the margin in between might make it a better car than the new stock RS...
from what I feel, if you apply the same mod to both car, get the same horsepower, of course the lighter one will be quicker on both stright and cornering... even tho the new car's chasis is more solid, but with a sub 200hp car, does it really need those extra pounds? there's many aftermarket parts that can be put on the strength the old chasis up, and it should still weight less... |

Would just like to add that the MY00 and MY01 have standard rear LSD whereas the new 2.5 RS have an open diff in the rear. The rear LSD was moved to the WRX according to the brochure.
