Nice. I'd rub one out if it were a Yellowbird though.

Ruf, or Alois Ruf, is actually recognized as an independent builder complete with serials and all by zee Germans. I don't remember about AMG, I don't think they are but Saleen is. Sti, well its just a model.

So wrong.

Ruf : Porsche :: Saleen : Mustang.

i.e. they are an actual OEM manufacturer, basing their product off a Porsche, but with their own VIN and manufacturing records.

STi is still a Subaru.
AMG is still a Mercedes.
Ruf is NOT a Porsche.

AMG USED to be seperate from Mercedes back in the day, as far as I remember, but think of RUF being more like Alpina with BMW. They're an exclusive Porsche tuner that's been around for a long time, and makes some super hot Porsches.

They are most definitely NOT a "tuner"... at least not legally. They take parts that have no VIN and make a legal vehicle from parts sourced from Porsche as well as their own parts.

AMG was a tuner whou was swallowed up by the factory. Ruf is a manufacturer.

It's the same car, but it's not a trim level. You can't choose WRX, then click the STi me option. It's a whole other model whilst being in the same car chain.

First RUF was in 1987, they called it Yellowbird - 211MPH. If the first RUF turbo was in 87, how can this be legit and from 86? This smells funny to me. A true RUF is very rare, most are aftermarket mods. I've seen/driven a few RUFs (fastest car I've ever driven).

RUF is the only manufacturer that receives vin-less 'bodies-in-white' from Porsche, completes them as a distinctly separate brand, and applies their own VIN. They are not a tuner at all, and are a low-volume manufacturer supported and endorsed by Porsche. If you run a RUF vin, it does not come up as a Porsche, but as a RUF.

Thank you, Alois.

Have you seen the lastest car mag fest? It's the 0-200mph 1 mile test. The Yellowbird (469hp) came in 4th behind a Saleen S7 Twin turbo (750hp), Lola Champ Car (800hp), and the Hennessey (1000hp). This 18 yr old car whomped on a but load of cars!!!
