Default Who's running a 20G with aftermarket TMIC?

I was wondering if this is possible or if I will have to run a FMIC? I am trying to make it as stealth as possible. What kind of numbers are you seeing?

PM powerleak, hes running a green similiar to a 20g with a TMIC. now hes running a sz55! theres many aftermarket turbos producing good #'s with a tmic. Like the gruppe-s GT30 kit & the atp kit. good luck...

I'm currenty running a 20g with a tmic. Soon I'll be running a SZ49 on my spearco tmic. From what I have been told the 20g should be fine with a tmic(stock or aftermarket).

I think he running it with the stock TMIC due to fitment issues.

Clarification: due to TMIC bracket fitment issues.

I personally have had a SZilla with a Spearco TMIC and it was close but it fit fine.

Cheers

Nick

i had a hyperflow tmic with my 20g. i ended up going to a fmic within 3 months. a tmic will do the job, but you will be leaving a lot of hp on the table. here's an old picture of the setup...

sr55 with a spearco here. on the dyno it proved to be VERY hard to tune but once on the street we were able to add a couple degrees of timing and a couple pounds of boost. I will most likely go fmic or air/water sooner than later but its doable and spoolup is quite nice.

Green and txs tmic here. As stated above your only draw back is really on the dyno. On the street it shines..

One other thing worth mentioning is that you really need to be aware of heatsoak on the street with a tmic. If you jsut got done a couple 1-4 pulls and you roll up to a light you might want to be thinking in the back of your head that your intercooelr is prolly a skillet until you start getting airflow back over it again.

nice to see my buddies posting for me hi AJ & Sashin!!

i'm running an sz60 with the stock sti tmic so a 20g, sz49 or green(ol faithful) will work just fine for a daily driven setup.
with my setup though, the stock tmic needs to be replaced with either an fmic or a larger bar/plate since flow restriction seems to be an issue.

Impreza WRX STi Could you elaborate?

T3RMIN4L

Would you elaborate a bit on where the difficulty comes from when tuning this combo on the dyno? The more detail the better, as tuning is one of my favorite topics of discussion.

I'm just curious...

Well, we didnt have a fan that we could position over the top mount so were either holding one off to the side or directing as best as possible which provided little to no airflow through the tmic. It was so bad that from cold at idle it would be too hot to touch by about 6K on ONE pull. We couldnt advance timing over 19 degrees up top nor could we run more than 19psi. On the street we pulled a couple tenths of fuel added 2-3 degrees and added 2-3 psi and it felt noticably better and knock was MUCH quieter.

What radiator is that? I've been thinking a radiator and maybe oil cooler upgrade for track days might be first before a new turbo.

when I went with the fmic I also upgraded to the sz49, so it's hard to say. jgheels has a 20g, went from a tmic to a fmic and increased about 15whp, he can correct me if I'm wrong.

the splitter skirt was completely removed, wouldnt fit. the hyperflow tmic also rubbed the hood, made some nice scratches on the ic and on the underside of the hood. the hyperflow tmic does look pretty

one other thing worth mentioning is heat soak at the dragstrip. everytime I drove to the dragstrip, my tmic would soak up heat the entire time I was there, and would never cool down, even if I let it sit for 1-2 hours. Stagging lines are a pita, cause your tmic is going to absord all the heat while inching forward to the line. Of course once you got moving it would cool down, but that wont performance in 1-2gear.

not to take things off the topic here but which setup do you like better? i love the way a 20g spools but another 30whp or so up top would be nice as well.
