Cool Tire fitment dilemma ~ HELP!

I just recently purchased a 5Zigen FN01R-C 18x8.5 wheels. Now, it's time to get some rubbers for my wheels. I figured I will go towards the ADVAN Neova/A048. My dilemma is I can't make up my mind what size to get. I've search the boards and seen several posts regarding tire sizes ranging from 265/35R18 to the recommended 235/40R18 tires. I really like wide tires in my car, so I will exclude the required fitment. My question is would a 255/40R18 ADVAN Neova fit my 05 STi? Is anyone using this set up or close this spec? I considered getting 245/40R18 but ADVAN do not carry this size. I'm strictly an ADVAN person (can't you tell... )

I would appreciate anyone's help.

NOTE: My car is not lowered but I am thinking of getting Prodrive Springs in a DISTANT future. I guess my tires life will die first before I get springs.

You really need a 255-35-18, will give you nearly identical diameter to stock 225-45-17.

Keep in mind that different manufacturer's actual tire dimensions can vary from ideal.

Problem with 18" wheels is that there are so few tires available in the size you need...

Advan a048 is not available in that size...

You do realize that you are only going to get like 2,500 - 5,000 miles out of those tires?

Cheers,

Jeff

Here are some alternative super-sticky tires that come in 255-35-18:

Dunlop Super Sport Race

Pirelli Pzero Corsa

Thanks jeff for your input. Since I STRESSED on ADVANs and 255/35R18s are not available in either a048 nor neova, would a 265/35R18 fit without rubbing the fenders? Or, should I stick to 255/40R18 which according to the link you posted, will almost be the same size as my OE? I really like to head to this direction but I have my reservation. My biggest fear is the tires hitting the fenders causing damage to the tires and car.

Overall, I may have to go with what was suggested by the retailer and stick with the 235/40R18.

Hi - the A048 is a great autox tire. I understand why you like them.

I wouldn't put a 265 on a 8.5" wheel. It's just too wide for the wheel. And as you say, it may rub the rear fender.

I don't see a 255-40-18 listed on tire rack's web page for a048. In any case it would have a diameter around 26 inches which is 1.1 inches taller than stock.

There is a 235-40-18, which has a diameter of 25.4" in the A048. This would probably fit fine. You should see if your tire store will let you do a test fit of the tire on the wheel.

Cheers,

Jeff
