It will not fit unless you change out the rear top hats and spring perches with those from a 2002 2003 wrx but then the rear springs won't work.

hmm.. I thought 04 and 02/03 WRX suspension are interchangeable as long as you change out the whole unit.. and a lot of people have put 02/03 WRX suspension in BD..
can you please tell me what make the new rear strut top design doesn't work in BD? it is hitting some part of the car? or the shape of newer rear strut top won't fit in the openings??

thanks for reply!

The only thing they changed between 02/03 and 04 is the design of the springs. They went back to a tapered spring in 04. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I've got legacy suspension (From 1990, 1995, and 1998... Basically what I could piece together from what was lying around the shop) on the STI now (Just so it we can move it), and it fits just fine with no rubbing issues at all.

The rear topmounts and springs are very different on 02/03(Ver7) and 04 STis(Ver8.) But as you observed etam the entire assemblies will bolt right in because the bolt pattern is the same.

I put a JDM Ver8 STi suspension on my wagon and while I loved the feel, it dropped the rear of my wagon too much. I was getting rubbing under hard turns with the 205/55-16s on RS wheels(ideal offset.)

subysouth.. thanks for confirmation! hope BD got less weight in the rear compare to BG.. or I might need to get some spacer for the rear??

anyway, will see..if the seller will sell them together with his car... or part it out..

for reference: here is the big thread about 02/03 wrx with 04 suspension:

Yep, I thought about a spacer after I took them back off and sold them. You can put a 10mm aluminum spacer on the rears without changing the topmounts studs IIRC. If you pop out the stubs you could probaly get away with 19-20mm.

I think you may find they work quite well on the BD with no spacers though. My BG has a Class 2 hitch on the rear too as well as the standard wagon weight.
