Default Rant: Why MSPT is the BEST - All Tri-Staters should read!!

I'll keep this relatively short, but I am simply amazed at the service and professionalism of the staff over at Metric Subaru in Huntington (MSPT).
EVERYONE in the tri-state area should use these guys, even if it is a longer drive or a bit farther out of the way for those outside of LI.

Dave Brown, who does the UTEC/Ecutek/AP tuning, is the absolute nicest guy in the world. I am home in NY for only a few days at a time and he always somehow manages to make time to fine-tune my ecutek map or simply answer questions I have about my setup. He is incredibly busy tuning cars all freakin day, yet still has a nice-guy attitude and really gives a great effort to keep his customers happy.

I know there are a lot of "stealerships" out there, but MSPT's combination dealership/performance tuning setup is remarkable. My dad has 40K miles on his fpgreen'd sti and I have 76K on my vf39'd 02 wrx, both tuned by dave brown. Neither of us have ever had a CEL, motor problem, or any problem with our cars whatsoever(knocks on wood for stock 5 spd and clutch).

If any of you are debating on where to have your car worked on, metric will work with any type of setup for any year subaru. They have a great parts dept. and staff and charge reasonable prices for top-quality work. I'm sure some locals can back me up, I've seen many member's cars parked there over the last year or so.

If there are any metric staff on these boards, thanks for all the help!

They do road tuning mostly. I know they have also worked in conjunction with a shop that has an awd dyno out in Ronkonkoma, maybe a half hour west of MSPT.

I picked up a chargespeed carbon fiber lip type 2 from mark at ravspec.
He gave me a great price on the lip and fast delivery. Anybody in the tri-state area should consider looking at ravspec if they want stuff for their car.

Default Dave from Metric Subaru Performance Tuning (MSPT)

Well, today I made the trek out to Long Island, early in the morning to go for my protune by Dave.

I have a pretty custom setup with an engine bay thats basically all port and polished and coated, wrapped, or both and Dave did a nice job with the car.

I'm not sure how much power its making, since it was a street tune/road tune but the car is 100% smoother now after Dave has tuned it. It pulls like it should, but I have no specifics on where I reach max boost since I haven't logged or spent enough time in the car yet - I was worried about making the long drive back and not goosing it on the highway. (It should be somewhere around 2500rpms, but I haven't checked),

Now here's the great part. The service was top notch, absolutely top notch and outstanding. Dave took the car out with me before the tune, we talked about the car and any issues I had with it, and then he tuned it for around 3hours. When he saw me walk back by (he had been nice enough to point me to a diner across the street, since I'm an out-of-towner and it was a nice comfortable place to sit down for a few hours and get some work done) he stopped the car and gave me an update of his progress at the time.

He was nice enough to break down for me the fact that the car would need to be tweaked in the summer and a different restrictor pill and wastegate duty cycle adjusted when the weather gets warm again.

It gets better, he said he would just send me the pill and update a map whenever I needed him to, as well as analyzing any logs I make if the car begins to have a hesitation problem that I was seeing before the tune.

The service center was packed when I first walked in and I had to wait about 15-20minutes, but hey its a busy place with lots of walk-in, eveyday, customer's cars so that is to be expected. At the end of the day, they even gave me the remote to the TV in the lounge and were cracking some funny jokes with me.

To conclude the tune, he took me for a final drive and showed the car off to me. We discussed everything, like where I can put my max boost and such, along with the glass trannys in the '02/'03's and things that I have to be aware of if I start making some serious power.

Best of all, I left www.MSPT.net with a smile on my face and loving the car once again. I felt like I was taken care of and everything was above and beyond expectations. With the setup I had, so prices may vary, the protune was only $125. At that rate, I felt so good with everything Dave had done that I threw him some extra cash.

If anyone has a chance to go out there for a protune, then by all means, I can't recommend it highly enough.

thats cool. Ive heard a lot of mixed from him. A friend of mine had a lot of trouble with dave... his motor ended up pretty much taking a dump because of a bad tune.. but another person I know said that dave was great...

Honestly, until now, I have never heard one bad comment about Dave. Never once.

He asked me how hard I wanted the car to be pushed. He tuned it within its limits with correct A/F ratios and without messing with the timing.

I don't know what the deal with your friend was or if it was really a bad tune, but I made the huge trek, rather than going to Dynoflash in Conn., because I was confident that Dave was the best tuner around.

So I just got back from having some work done at AREA1320, they do excellent work, thanks again Ryan. I recommend them to everyone looking to get stuff installed or anything else they have in their mind.

They are located in pa, so for some might be a tad bit of a drive, but worth it for the service and people

Default 201 motorsports

i just wanted to take a minute to tell all of the local guys in this region about phil at 201 motorsports. i recently ordered some work emotions from him, turns out that something occoured with his wheel supplier and there was a mixup and the wheels i wanted werent in the country..he IMEDATELY called and informed me about this and offered me a full refund..even my deposit.

i didnt want to do that, i wanted wheels, so he worked for about a day and found me a set of my second choice, fn01r-c's in my fitment and called me back the same day to let me know when they would be here. and of course hes sending lugs and hubcentric rings to me. he worked extremely hard to make the purchase i was making easy and fast. hes a great guy to deal with, always anwsers the phone and has great business ethics. i just cant say enough good things about phil and his business. i would highly recommend him to everyone and will DEFINATELY be purchasing from him again and again in the future.

so if you havent tried ordering from 201 i would give them a try, you wont regret it.

Default Got my car tuned at XX-tuning today

Had my car retuned at XX-Tuning today after got my car tuned there in June 06. Chris had done an excellent job of improving drivability of my car as car drives so smooth now. I wasn't too worried about matching whp numbers from last time, but it appears that whp/wtq are about the same.

Car put down about 282whp and 275wtq @ 19.5psi.

VF34 & STi TMIC
Borla hush and v1 maddad catted downpipe (may need replacement)
BPM turbo inlet and paper filter
NGK one step colder plugs
Ported exhaust manifold
Perrin crank pulley
German castol

My scanner isn't working, but I will post the dyno sheet when I get a chance.

The AZP guys (Mike, Alex et al) are top notch. I stopped by a few weeks ago and had my pads and rotors replaced. Was there again this past weekend to have my koni inserts and springs installed. The guys are so great I'll be back this coming up weekend to have my turbo back exhaust installed and have my tranny/diffy fluid changed. Two thumbs up to these guys!

Default Evil Performance

Just wanted to give a big thumbs up to Jay at Evil Performance.

Helped me work through a problem with an order and really went out of his way to try to rectify the situation. In the end, I recieved the correct parts the first time they were just mislabled from the distributor.

I highly reccommend him, and would definetely buy parts from him again!

Default BIG thank you to Percision Tuning

I'd just like to publicly thank Rich and Cleo at PT for the awesome job they've done with my car.

I came in about a month ago to get a tune only to find out my clutch can't hold after the first pull on the dyno. Most shops would say I'm SOL. These guys were awesome enough to let me come back a month later with a new clutch and gears and finished the tune for me. Not only that, but Rich was nice enough to smoke my car before it got on the dyno to make sure everything is up to snuff and that there are no leaks. I was really surprised by their dedication to their customers. It's something I don't see a lot these days and that's why I though this deserved a new thread.

Anyway, here are the numbers with a vf39 on a 07 wrx:

EDIT: yeah this is embarrassing... but mispelled "precision".... any mods wanna help me out...

Great customer service and great location (I am so close). If they can handle my acura, they can definitely do your scooby.
