Default 92 and 98 struts Whats the difference?

I can't seem to find any performance struts for my 98 Legacy. My son just put some KYB AGX struts on his 92 and they seem to be decent. I compared them to mine as good as I could without removing mine and they look identical.

I have his stock ones still that I will compare to when I get a chance to pull one of mine.

Has anyone tried to install the eariler version on a later car? if so, did they fit? what was the difference if they didn't?

I have a set of coilovers I built several years ago that I could rebuild to fit, but it would be a lot less work if I could find something that would fit, or an insert for the stock strut.

What have you guys done for High Performance struts?

Thanks
Brian

You could probably use the AGX front struts from the earlier Legacys but the rears are somewhat different. Several people here have used the Impreza f&r GC/GF AGXs on the BD/BGs but there is a slight perch height difference IIRC.

Its hard to beat the KYB GR2s though for the BD/BGs in terms of cost and compatibility. Just not adjustable.

Is there anyplace on this forum that lists out all the letter designations for the subaru line?

Does the perch height difference raise or lower the car?

also I'm planning on autocrossing some and I haven't heard the GR2s mentioned as an autocross shock. anybody use it?

A brief search of the KYB site yielded more info.

The site lists 734006 and 734007 as the front struts for the 92-94 Legacys and 93-01 Imprezas but different PNs for the GR2s for BC/BF and BD/BG Legacys. Sooooo, using some exclusion logic, that would suggest that the struts are not the same between BC/BF and BD/BGs or GC/GF and BD/BGs.

I guess thats why they dont offer a BD/BG AGX(even though they are available for BC/BFs and GC/GFs.) Enough difference not to market it I guess.

Yea I got the same results, but not finding what I want has never stopped me from digging further.
I just hoped someone on here beat me to it
