Default leftover 05s-- begin bargaining at invoice?

Invoice minus the current $2000 rebate seems "fair" but has anyone done better?

I'm working on trading in my 04 forester for a 05 gt limited, 5 speed. With the $1000 off and 4.9% for 72 i'll be right around where i am for payments with the xt currently.

I have the dealer down from $29,220 to $26312 and then my trade. They are going to give me 18k with 30k miles. I don't know if i'm getting enough, it has leather/sunroof. It's in mint condition (detailed weekly).

Anyone have any suggestions? Should I be getting more for my trade/new car? Any comments are appreciated.

-Ben

Where do you people live that you're getting $2000 in incentives? I bought a LGT yesterday and got $1500 in Pittsburgh.

I got mine at $300 over invoice on a dealer trade before incentives. But then I got a few extra options thrown in too.

$300 OVER invoice at this late stage seems WAY high. My Mom got one the month they were released at $1500 over. Seems to me that by now they would really be moving them. I know I have heard of people getting lower than that, months and months ago.

Either way, enjoy your new baby.

In the end I paid $1200 UNDER invoice after $1500 in cash incentives, and got some extra options included at no charge. You also have to consider that this car is being traded from another dealership 300+ miles away, which costs some money. Demand for the 2005 models is exceptionally high around here, especially with the fewer color options for 2006. I almost didn't get the last white LGT, but luckily the previous buyers fell through and it became available again.

I'm just thrilled I found the white with black interior... I probably would have paid even more since this color combo is disappearing in 2006. The taupe interior does not belong in the Legacy GT!

I pick up my new toy on Friday morning!

Well, the pressure's on then... this car will disappear in a few days. I really need to sell one of the land barges to the left first though...

The saving grace for me is that while I like the smooth ride in the LGT, I can't say as I care for the lean in turns. Seems excessive to me though I've been driving a Shelby Cobra replica regularly (not mine-- company car) which is the only "performance" car I can compare it to. I keep telling myself I've got to wait to drive an '06 WRX wagon and then decide...

I don't think body roll is really that bad in the LGT. I'm sure it could easily be reduced with an upgraded swaybar... it made a world of difference in my previous Legacy.

BTW, what I'm looking at is a LGT Limited wagon too--- BJ, thanks for the advice! If I do bite on this one I'll be thinking sway bar immediately...

And this is Upstate NY BTW.

Canadian prices are still too high. That and I'm not sure if I want to get a 03 / 04 VDC Outback sedan or an 05 LGT base. Either would need to be Auto and while the power of the LGT is nice it lacks everything else the VDC has.

IMHO,,anything under invoice not including the rebate ($1500/2000) is a good deal.It also depends on many variables,,to mention just a few;
The dealer,,is he sitting on quite a few ?
You,,do they have the color, options, etc that you want or are you willing to modify your wants and needs.
Are you trading or paying cash. The dealer may give you an incredible deal on the new car then try to steal your tradein.
Lots more

I've found a small lot that currently has one 2005 red GT wagon in stock with only 2855 miles on it. Must not be a limited as no sunroof or leather. It's 5 speed car and is not a salvage title either. How much? 19,988 dollars. I'm torn between doing this or keeping my '99 L wagon with Morettes, killer stereo, WRX wheels, 67000 miles, and window tint. I owe 4 more years on it, and just not sure what to do here. I probably owe more than book, so that will hurt me on this deal. Decisions, decisions....

If you can afford the GT get it. Driving a GT aorund will more than offset the lack of Morrettes and tint. The WRX wheels are not as good as the LGT so that isn't a problem. If you can do it, the smile on your face will be worth every penny.

whats the word on fitament issues with that? I recall reading somwhere where there was a major recall in japan land because the bar is too large and interferes with stuff(braking system maybe).

Good luck either way!
