Exclamation Gas prices to hit $3.00 a gallon this summer.

Don't know if this has been covered but it was on the news a few days ago to expect gas prices to hit $3.00 a gallon this summer.

Anyone else have more info?

What!? I can't afford that! I spend $100 per month on gasoline at $1.50 / gallon. I will be spending $200?!

I kinda hope they do go up... then maybe some of the people who drive Excursions and Suburbans all the time will dump them, and I will be able to see to make a right turn...

That price will be more than sufficient to curb consumption considerably, thus driving prices back down.

It was on the evening News. I think NBC. After the local news they were talking about economy and the oil companies and a shortage.

Gas in my area right now for regular ranges from $1.49-$1.67. It should jump at least .20 cents before Memorial Day Weekend.

Jay, what's it at in the UK right now?

At least if it goes up to $3.00 a gallon the roads may not be as congested as they are now. It is just no fun driving in all the traffic. What burns me most is our state spending all the road funding to build carpool lanes for 2 or more persons, and then cars with two or more people do not use the lanes built for them! It is so stupid to build these lanes. There should be some kind of law that if you have two or more persons in a car and are not in the car pool lane or getting ready to exit you get a ticket.

you don't really and honestly want to know the prices in the UK. your eyes will do this

and 3 bucks a gallon is lower than i was used to paying so that'll fell better actually
last summer i was filling up on 100 octane every fill up..or 93 and 2 bottles of octane boost race forumla just to prevent det. and pre-ingition stupid motor And that was average cost of 3.89 or more a gallon sometimes even close to 4.35 a gallon it got me in shape for this summer where i am going to be doing the same thing again.
Besides i got around 4-11 mpg if i was lucky in the scoob. most of the time around 7 highway..sounds fun, huh? I enjoyed it honestly, just cus it hadn't been done before and it was more fun that stock

Hell its more then $5 a gallon where I am already. At least we get better gas then the US does. I saw thast mentioned on a few news shows that OPEC cut production again in order to take the price of a barrel of oil back above $30 a barrel. Last summer it got to $35 a barrel and now OPEC is kind of getting greedy enough to drive up prices so they make more cash. That and a summer travel season with the SUV owners make what gas is available alot more expensive. In a way I hope the price of gas gets to the $5 a gallon that I have. Then you'll seperate who really needs a SUV and who is just a lying bitch. Should drive more then a few SUV owners to the train or bus for at least a while. Funniest thing was last year seeing a news show where they asked this guy at the gas station what he thought of it all. He said its too hard on a poor man like himself to afford gas for his SUV. This from a man standing next to a Lincoln Navigator. Hey buddy maybe that's why your poor?

I saw that report in USA Today. I think the $3/gallon will be in places where it's already higher than average, i.e. the west coast. Anyhoo, my car will be in storage from the beginning of June until the end of October, so I could really care less. I just hope $2.25 isn't marketed as a "bargain" after the prices spike.

This will probably keep all the Navigators and Excursions sitting in the driveways with some pissed off owners....so tell me, what exactly is the problem with this, again?

This is all baseless speculation. Nobody can predict what will happen to the world oil market months from now. In order for gas prices to reach $3.00 a gallon in the US, a lot of nasty stuff would have to happen. Quite frankly, I'm 99.9% certain that it won't.

At the most, I think it's safe to say gas prices might go up a maximum of 20 cents, but beyond that, any speculation is purely contrived and based on nothing but paranoia and the need for a scary story for the six-o-clock news.

I'll believe it when I see it.

We saved the oil barons from sadam and look how we get repaid. We should have over ran them ourselves. Then kicked sadam to the vultures.

With rusia Like they are they`d probably buy from us.

But then we'd be setting a bad example!!!

But still oil would be cheap

One thing!

Why does only gas go up? why does plastic bags and stuff stay the same?

Hey guys englands paying $1.30 for a liter of gas.

I live in the SF Bay Area, right now, prices for premium in my area (usually slightly below Bay Area averages) are running 2.10-2.20/gallon, with regular being just barely under $2/gallon again.

Will we hit $3 in this area for premium? I'd say we have a good chance, but not garunteed. $2.50 for premium? Now, that is almost garunteed here.

Ohwell, I miss my Festiva, although I got considerably less mpg than it was rated for, but my rex is FAR more fun. ;-)

This was first covered on CNBC several weeks ago. An energy expert predicted based on supply and demand that gasoline in California will go to $3.00 per gallon this summer. East of the Hudson, Florida, and the Midwest it will top $2.50.

I bet it'll get damn close.
