Default JDM V7 STi heads vs. JDM non-STi heads

this may have been covered before somewhere but i have to order these soon and need to know the differences before i make this jump. i have the opportunity to get V7 JDM non-sti heads with avcs for $800 canadian. what are the downsides to this vs. the JDM STi heads? i'm sure they're still better than the USDM wrx heads that i already have and would rather not put on the STi shortblock i just got. what will the compression be with these on there? are they worth getting since i'm on a budget or should i save up for 6 months and get the JDM STi heads for $2k or so.

No... The Ver 7 spec C heads have larger intake ports, stiffer valve springs, a more agressive cam profile, an 8k rev limit and AVCS.

I believe the original poster was inquiring about V7 WRX heads, not STI.

JDM Version 7 STI - AVCS, larger intake ports, 8k redline, and slightly more agressive cam profile than USDM WRX.

the question is what is the difference between v7 jdm sti heads and v7 jdm non-sti heads. the vendor that i might buy these from say they're non-sti v7 jdm heads. i know the jdm sti heads have larger valves, more aggressive cams, higher rev limit and avcs, but what do the v7 non-sti jdm heads have.

supposedly, v7 jdm non-sti heads are similiar to jdm sti heads in terms of ports, but don't have as aggressive cams and valvetrain

Aren't they just regular USDM WRX heads w/AVCS? I was under the assumption that the JDM STI heads had the good stuff.

anyways $800 before you decide to get those from Canada talk to Steve at Innovative automotive im sure he has a pair layin around. What ECU do you plan to use? Also Innovative Auto has a direct plug in harness to use the AVCS in your car.

Ok let me add what i know.. The JDM WRX comes with the same head casting as the USDM Wrx, HOWEVER i had a jdm wrx in my Gc which had big port heads. It seems subaru will throw together whatever they have sitting around when building cars.. The JDM WRX also has a 7400rpm redline so possably the valvetrain is a bit better, but i can not confirm that.

I would try and get a pic of the heads from your supplier and post them.. Are you getting them from 4star?

yeah they're from fourstar. if they're just like the usdm heads but with avcs, then i'll just save up to get the sti heads from innovative. i'll just re-use my usdm wrx heads for now since there's no damage to them. sounds like that would just be a waste of money and not be the right parts for my solution. so in a few months i'll get the jdm sti v7 heads for my new EJ257 with 750cc injectors, fp green, turboxs front mount, utec and other little goodies. and then i'll concentrate on a 6spd swap or 5spd ra....still deciding and doing research on that one. thanks again for the help guys.
