Default 03 vs 04 motor differences?

is there any difference when the body style changed for the WRX in terms of the 2.0L-T power plant? did anything change? tried searching, couldnt find anything.

from what ive seen everything is pretty much the same. the ecu might be slightly different(ie closed and open loop switchover). im sure there probably a few small changes that are almost unnoticible but i only know of this one.

mainly concerned on the motor end.

my 03 threw a rod and i found a 04 motor for sale.....

No motor differences. A few ECU changes an extra sensor here or there and other minor stuff, but the internals are the same.

What engine model is in the 2003s, 2004s (EJxx designation)?

when did the fuel filter migrate into the tank? 04 or 05?

if i were to slap an 04-05 motor into my 03 and run it on my 03 ECU, will it run normal?

do the plugs line up?

I read that the valvetrain was slightly lighter on the 04 somewhere around here.

Dude... You could slap your 03 ECU in my 04, and it would run better! If you tried for an 03 engine in my car, I might have to jack with a sensor or two... You will be fine.

Am i correct in that the 04's and up use the shimless design for the lifters.. The 02's and 03's use the shims?


I know the 04 uses shimless. Not sure when that changed though.

Didn't that actually change in late 03 along with the 17mm sway bar, and wider gear set?
