Unhappy Smoke under my hood this morning

I was driving to work when I noticed some light smoke coming from under my hood. My temp. needle wasn't going up. It also did it this weekend and it looked like it was coming from around where my transmission oil dip stick is at. Can anyone please tell me what I should start looking at or any possible problems? Can it be the transmission oil? I really want to take care of my ride so if need be, can anyone recommend a trusty mechanic that could take a look under the hood and give it an over all inspection? I'm at work right now, on Wolf and Oakton, and I live in Franklin Park, near Fullerton and Scott. I hope it gets me home today.....

Damn...I hope this isn't something serious.

Chances are it's the rear access cover or rear mail seal. If you find oil on the bottom of the bellhousing and/or tranny crossmember, that would be it. I would monitor consumption until you need a clutch, as pulling the tranny or engine out is the only way to get at them.

Yep, rear separator plate, its a little plastic or metal cover on the back of the engine behind the flywheel, commonly leaks oil and then it comes out the bottom of the transmission, falls onto your hot exhaust and makes smoke, probably nothing to worry about, mine was real bad at one point, like, I would stop at a light and be in a huge cloud of smoke, it was kind of fun to see the looks on people's faces.
