The new ones don't pull off red all that well.

What other cars get ruined by standard color choices?
There was a thread here recently where someone was looking at a used teal/aquamarine 3-series. Not a good color for the car. I saw a metallic purple/lavender 5-series on ebay recently: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CLEAN...QQcmdZViewItem Not my taste but it did stand out from the pack. Seems like 80% of today's German cars - even in Germany - are black, silver or some shade of metallic gray in between. It gets boring (this coming from someone who owns two metallic gray cars, pot calling kettle black ).

Lately I've been in total fantasy mode over buying a 69-73 911 and I'm really getting into some of the period colors Porsche offered: Gulf Blue (exactly that - the pale nonmetallic blue used on the John Wyer Gulf cars), Irish Green, Aubergine (a/k/a eggplant), Blood Orange.

Nonmetallic reds look bad on most cars as they fade badly. I'd think paint manufacturers would have solved that problem by now; it used to be the rap on silver but not anymore.

I drive by a Cadillac CTS on my way to work. In olive drab puke green. It doesn't look nearly this good in person:

The new 330i looks amazing in red, IMO.

Any green thats not a dark BRGish one, like the neon green offered on some Kias.

I'm with Ulf, sort of. So hard to find a good green on a car besides BRG on a British car (except an Aston, which must be in Aston works racing green).

Again I'm nuts over Porsche Irish Green on a 356 or 911:

Green mostly has an industrial or dated 1950s feel to it, like on an old pickup truck or other work vehicle. On a modern vehicle it just seems retro, like the Nissan Figaro.

Anyone else think Lime Green Metallic is the hottest thing ever on NSXs/S2000s?

Personally, I think any expensive sports car in silver is a bad choice. Like DB7/DB9, any Ferrari, etc. Sure they look clean, but did they buy the car to blend in? I think silver on Aston Martins is the worst. Aston Martins come in the prettiest blues and greens and you have to buy boring silver that everyone's taurus and camry comes in... (NOTE: I'm not talking trash on silver Subarus, I like those)

No. At least when it is on the right car it's not the worst. Think Ferrari or Porsche.

I know, but now that the market is flooded with cheap yellow cars, they are ruined in mine eyes.

There's also another color for the Falcon that's like a lavendar/purple color. Looks like ass.

I always thought PSM looked like crap on Subarus, especially the STi. For a car as flamboyant as the STi, PSM is too pedestrian, it's like a giant contradiction.

Pale, post-it note yellow. Looks like crap on everything be it a Beetle or a WRX.

Yeah, I saw a 650 in red on Friday and it just looked off. Although the red window tint probably wasn't helping matters any.
