Ive been searching around and see that many of you are working with stromung exhausts, both the axleback and others with the axleback AND the midpipe. My question is...where did you get it from? I know boxer4racing is a good place, but my main question is will/would(/did for some that have tried) the RS Stromung exhaust fit with our cars? I'm working with a 01 outback sedan, which is very like the legacy gt. Did you get the exhaust that was for the legacy or did you buy the RS and made it work? (Reason why im asking is bc im looking for a used stromung and many that are selling are from RS's, and not legacys).
Thanks! edit - "For a catback, the Impreza is too short without modding." searched a little more and found this...is this true? If it is, how much modding would it take for me to fix it up? I really want to just buy a used catback...any help would be much appreciated.

I had a stromung axle-back for a while. Bought it used from another member here. It was made specifically for the legacy. I don't recall where he got it from.
If you do buy a stromung setup for any other subaru besides legacy, the piping will have to be redone. Not sure how this will effect sound/performance, but odds are it will. If you're going that direction, I'd just get a used stromung axleback for an RS or WRX, take it down to an exhaust shop, and have some piping custom/hangers made for the entire exhaust, keeping only the stromung muffler. This would be a very cheap route to get a cat-back exhaust versus finding a midpipe as well. Again, who knows what it'll sound like, but I'm sure it'll sound cool with the stromung muffler ![]() fibuz |

They are made specifically for the Legacy or the Impreza. I asked the same question to the guys at boxer4. I bought the axel-back and midpipe seperately from them because at the time it was actually cheaper to buy it that way
. ...rather than buying the catback they have listed for stromung. |

I did a complete Magnaflow for just under $250. It's sweet on my 1995 Legacy L Wagon. They cut right in front of the resinator. Did a full cat-back

I also had a full custom cat-back made for under $300.
IMHO brand name exhausts are over priced. |

I went to a custom exhaust shop. I think the muffler is a magnaflow or bullet. I can't remember. since its the cat-back, the stock cats are in there. to get the signature boxer sound, I added a borla header
here's what the rear looks like: ![]() ![]() |

Awesome...I think the custom catback is worth looking into then...since the price looks a lot friendlier. Do any of you with custom catbacks have any sort of sound clip of your setup? Was it a worthwhile mod? Sound good?

I don't have a sound clip, but you'll like it I'm sure. remember, the sound is depicted by the muffler used. a "fart-can" will make more of a boxer rumble, but be really loud. I didn't want that. I went with the more classy dual-tip design. the sound was good with no droning. once i added the header i really have the boxer rumble...

Have a simple question. do all/most stromung catbacks have no resonators? How much would it cost for me to get one if I thought it was too loud? where would they put it anyways (would they need to built a new piping?)
thanks! |

I believe the catback from Stromung for you car has a resonator, only option. I may be wrong though.
If it doesn't and you want one then any competent muffler shop will just cut a section out of the midpipe and weld in a resonator. I have a resonated Stromung midpipe that I ordered directly from stromung. Prices are the same as Boxer4 and it is West Coast so may be quicker shipping, depending on your location. Jared |

www.boxer4racing.com has one listed for your car with a resonator. Looks like the resonator adds $80. Either way, I'm pretty much positive they make them, you may just have to check with them directly. Jared |
