Default 06 wrx does 13.4 in 1/4!

well, i couldn't believe it, but i went to the local track yesterday (memphis motorsports park in Tennessee) and saw a 2006 wrx do 13.4 in the quarter mile, stock! i had to make sure it wasn't an STI so I got closer to have a better look and yup, sure it enough, it was a regular plain jane wrx. i talked to the guy afterwards and said that he had just traded in his 05 last week. i just couldn't believe it. i'll see if i can get a pic of his time slip and post it up here. hmmm, soon, we'll be talking about 11 sec passes with the 06's. insane.

That's hard to believe with only 230hp at 3200lbs. They would have to be extremely underrated. The service manager at my Subaru dealer told me the 06 sti's had more power but it wasn't listed.

I wonder how much the dealer would rape me over on my 05 trade in. Even though the new ones are butt ugly. I wouldnt mind the extra power.

I've driven an 06 WRX. 13.4 seems a bit fast, but definitely within the realm of possibility. I've been saying for some time that engine should be rated about 255 hp, if the 2.0 WRX is rated at 227 hp, but nobody believed me.

You don't need to dump the clutch at all. Just add some air pressure to the tires. It launches quite nicely, with a little bit of wheel spin and no lag.

I second that....not stock, It was stripped, has a MBC, catless exhaust or something, but 13.4 stock. Sorry, I don't believe it, and won't belive it until there are a few reports of this at different tracks.

STi engine is unchanged, dealer is FOS. I think a 2.5 WRX could do it. Like was said before, increase tire pressure, hard slip the clutch and with a little tire spin you get no lag. I think the 5 speed is geared perfectly for 1/4 time. I still love my 05 STi and learned with my old 02, a modded WRX, does not an STi make.

It is possible. Also they have better gearing. Remember stock wrx gearing for the 1/4 sucks (02-05). You have to shift into fourth or hit limiter in third.

I also read somewhere that the WRX along with being a 2.5 was also going to have AVCS. I had also read that the 06' STi was to have AVCS on both the intake and exhaust cams.

Either way if they are that much faster stock I think I can forgive how ugly they look now

Top-end kind of sucks because that TD04 is too small, so it starts to run out of steam around 85 mph. The FXT isn't exactly aerodynamic, either. It's not showroom stock, but nothing's been done to it that you would consider a significant mod. C & D tested it at 13.8 @ 98.

I certainly believe an 06 WRX could do 13.4 with similar setup work. Too many of you overlook the little things, like tire pressure, which is really important.

the redline DOESN´t matter as long as the car is faster!
rsx = 8,200 rpm
rx8= 9,000rpm
06 wrx = 6,500rpm

guess which kicks the others ass!
stop complaining about redlines! the car is waaaaaaaaaay better than the previous ones.

the is still one less shift then you have to do in the STI. I think the WRX is geared much better for the 1/4 then the STI is but the STI gears can do it over and over and over and over......

From what I've seen at the Subaru dealer I hang out at, there is a fair amount of variation in boost and spool-up obtained from the TD04. One of the mechanics told me it was due to the stock BPV, but he thinks there's a fair amount of variance in turbo, too. It's not a very expensive unit and you get what you pay for.

If you drive the two back-to-back, there's simply no comparison.

this is a quote from this thread:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ghlight=owners

I don't own one but I got a chance to test the 06s against other year models at the dealer I go to. They have several different 06 models in service for demos and sales staff cars, already with break-in miles. They all has at least 1400 miles, already. They also have a very long private frontage road and they were closed. Some salesmen, mechanics and a few customers were there, all with our cars. We are all basically car nuts and it was a good opportunity for some comparisons. I'll just give you the WRX observations.

I got to compare the 06 against an 05 with 3500 miles and a Cobb stage 2 bug-eye with about 40k miles. The 06 felt like it handled better than the 05, it seemed to go where you pointed it better and felt more glued to the road. The suspension felt firm but not as harsh. I didn't like the way the bug-eye felt at all. It could be the aftermarket parts and the miles on it, but it was harsh and rattley and seemed to plow more. The bug-eye seemed to react a little quicker to steering input, but wasn't as predictable. Damn, I'm not doing a very good job of conveying the difference. I guess I'll never make a car tester.

I'm sure the frontage road is at least 1/4 mile, but we didn't have any timing equipment. Anyway, the 06 consistently whipped the 05, by a good margin. It didn't seem to matter who was driving either car; the results were pretty much the same. Even with the guy who owns the 05 launching like he owns stock in a clutch company, it didn't make much difference. I'd say the difference is at least 10 car lengths in a 1/4 mile.

Running against the Cobb stage 2 bug-eye, it was very close and largely a matter of who was driving what. I'd give the edge to the 06 just because it's much easier to launch and much less wear and tear on the drivetrain.

I don't know what you mean about the transmission feeling. I drive an FXT and they are basically the same running gear as the 06 WRX and I've never noticed anything unusual in the transmission. The 06 WRX felt the same to me, but so did the other 2 WRXs. You don't have to slip the clutch to launch the 06 and it winds 1st gear rather quickly. The 06 is definitely easier to drive because it has a lot more torque.

I never liked WRXs because of the weak engines. I could live with the 06. It's a significant improvement over previous years. I'd say 5.5 and 14.1 are pretty realistic numbers. It's sort of hard to judge tenths of seconds by seat-of-the-pants.

Even with the guy who owns the 05 launching like he owns stock in a clutch company, it didn't make much difference. I'd say the difference is at least 10 car lengths in a 1/4 mile.
Daaaaamn!

P.S. Note-to-self...NEVER buy the demo car!
