Default Check engine light

Ok, new question, looking at an 00 RS with 130k on it just about, and It's got a check engine light. But otherwise seems fine. They say it's because the previous owner, lost the gas cap, and then put a new one on it, so it lost fuel pressure or somthing, and the ecu needed to be reset...

Now In my previous car experience... Reseting the ECU typicaly requires unhooking the battery, and holding the brakes, or some other variation, and then ta da, reset.
I know subaru has an ECU reflash thing that I've heard about with the tuning ports, and if you ever need to have your ECU put back to default... so my question is.. does that apply here? Or is it going to be another problem besides this?
ty in advance.

its gonna be a different problem most likely. i lost my gas cap once, and was too lazy to get another one for about a month. never got an engine light. the general consensus around here is go to to autozone and they can hook up the ODBII scanner to the car and give you the error code. its going to be something like "p1130" so when you get that code go to this website http://www.iequus.com/obd_def.asp and type it in, it will tell you what the problem is. report back to us with the info.

Yeah if you have the gas cap it'll eventually go away. The computer will reset the CEL over a period of time (depending on what the code tripped was) and the MIL will turn off. If it doesn't turn off then it's still a problem. I'd get the code checked and maybe reset it and drive it around for a few days. If there is a problem the seller should be respectful of that. I could also be something like a misfire. Subarus can be known for that.

cheers
