Hi there,
Is anyone in the MA 01845 area running an STi with the Kartboy short shifter and bushings? I've found a thread in the Car Parts Review forum but it is posted by someone outside of my area. I would be interested to learn how it feels relative to the stock STi shifter and whether or not it is possible to retain the stock shift knob for somewhat of a stock look. Thanks, David

i recently installed the bushings, they make a great deal of difference gear-to-gear. They get rid of any vagueness or slop. The short shifter I'm not a huge fan of. It's ok, but I feel like I have to slam it in, from my experience driving friends'

yeah KB shifters are a love it or hate it thing. I personally like the feel they give. IMHO, what some describe as notchy, feels like a more secure shift engagement.
It really seems to be a 50/50 split of people that like them or dont. |

FWIW, I had the SPT short shifter in my 02 WRX and could barely tell the difference from stock. I've read similar reports from others when comparing the optional STi short shifter with stock. I believe the throw difference is about 10%, which I'd probably not even notice. That does not seem worth the $300 or so dollars to buy the kit from Subaru.
I drove JAMZ 02 WRX a few years back with the KB short shifter and liked the way it felt. I don't recall if he had the bushings installed or not although that is what I'd plan to buy if I go the KB route. Thanks, David |

The KB short shifter and bushings were installed today by Exeter Subaru. I am very pleased with the feel and much prefer it to stock. It definately feels more precise than stock when going into gear. As Davenow says, it feels a lot more secure.
Anyway...thumbs up from Bradus. |
