Default EJ25D HG job comming up...

Ok, so my 1996 Outback with the EJ25D Phase 1 made it 206k miles before the head gaskets finally got it.

Ive ran Motul 5w30 8100 synthetic in it for the last 10k miles....before that, i have no clue what it got an at what intervals.

it ran great otherwise...with 93 in it ofcourse. only year the NA's required it.

Anyhow...going to replace the head gaskets soon....

does it really matter what oil I use in it? I am one to use Motul in everything....I DO drive the outback hard...no easy miles it sees....it also sees alot of Atlanta metro stop/go/stop/go and so on....then 100's of miles a atime on the interstate.

My guess is the motul is the way to go....BUT...what would be the general opinion from you guys/gals?

I don't think the oil is going to make as huge of a difference in the longevity of the headgaskets. That's great that you got 206k out of the first set of gaskets.

I don't think you can go wrong with Motul though.

wasnt really looking at oil vs HGs....

looking at overall engine performance/life vs oil used....

and considering ive had a EA82T that was HIGHLY abused and put thru the test that ran on motul its entire life since I got it (aquired at 185000 miles) and it lasted over 20,000 miles (and still counting)....i think motul is the way to go.
