Im looking for an exhaust system......I really dont have time to be looking all over for specs and what not so what exhaust gives the most power and has a deep tone?? I really like the HKS Ti sound.....Is the HKS a good exhaust a good exhaust or is there better out there? I was also thinking about the vishnu. Let me know what you think. Thanks alot.

No one can help you.

There has been no test of all exhausts for power, so you are out of luck.
There has been no test of any exhaust tone, so you are out of luck.

If there is a guru onboard about this, it is probably me since I do dB testing of exhausts and have arguably heard more Subaru exhausts than anyone. My opinion is to get a TurboXS Stealthback with a Prodrive oval tip muffler.

The Prodrive is 100% straight through with is the best for power.
The Pordrive is probably the DEEPEST (low Hz) exhaust I've heard.

The other "benefit" is that Prodrive's offering is quiet as all get out at idle and then wakes up when you get on it. It may be too quiet for some, but realize that quiet = cop friendly and it will produce more power than some "loud" exhausts.

As to the HKS, it is OK, but really loud. If you like a loud exhaust and the angled look, go for it.

another one you might consider is the Apexi N1, angled look tip 115mm, pipe 65mm-80mm. (similiar to Hks-ti but with larger pipping)
if you want JDM, LOUD AND DEEP go for Kakimoto GT1.0Z pipping 80mm, tip 90mm.
or Kakimoto Hyper N1 ( angled, tip 115mm, pipe 70mm) which I heard is even better interms of loudness then the Blitz Nur Spec R.

BTW, why do you not have time to do the research? Modding should be fun and enjoyable. Reading and learning about your upcomming mod is the way to go.

AFAIK, it's only an axle-back right now...and not even an STi-specific muffler according to Simon @ Prodive (in this message thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=559462 )

We have do have several mufflers on evaluation but I am unable to give you an ETA at this time ...

I recently put on a DC sports cat back w/ a Tsudo catless dp. I must say I love the deep rumbling sound this exhaust puts out. The turbo whistle from the catless dp sounds really cool too. Although the cat back installed w/ ease, I would avoid the Tsudo dp as fitment was pretty bad. Heres a couple clips I found online:

I have HKS Carbon TI on my 05 STi. Great exhaust. Its not too loud unless you want it to be and has a nice deep rumble. But only thing I would recommend is to get the regular HKS no need for the Carbon TI not worth the extra $.

Hi Guys,

We have made some small internal changes to the round tip to make it sound better on the STi, the original design sounded a little “strained” at higher rpm so we made running changes to the part. The batches that are in stock now have these changes.

I would not use the oval myself, it’s a little more restrictive on the STi, the round tip is much more suited. As Unibomber states it’s (they both) are “straight through” designs (2/1/2” bore) the deep tone comes from the large muffler box that we use (and the design of the end pipe)

The STi PPP1 we’ve just released uses this muffler along with a cat delete centre pipe and re-flash, I have dyno runs showing the stock car with and without the muffler and we will be hosting these on our new USA website shortly

Cheers

Simon
