I know there is a differnce in the 05 rs exhaust but can't get solid answers from search or discussions what it is. Will a 02 catback fit on a 05? IF not why not? I know the exhaust manifold is supposably different but maybe thats not 100% true just tucks a bit higher maybe? Any true info would be appreciated.

Hm... The chasis design of the 02-03 RS/WRX were the same (cat-back/hanger location-wise) to the 04-05 RS/WRX. The GD/GG's are the same.
There aren't any part number changes between the two different years according to Subaru. So yes, an 02 catback will fit the stock hanger locations of an 04-05. Of course, this is just cat-back-wise. |

i've heard all different things, that some exhausts didn't fit, had to be cut, etc.
just tryin to get some "real" info. this is the thing... i have a brullen catback from my old 02 RS that i was thinking of putting it on my new 05 RS... want to know if it will bolt up or what. i heard one hanger needed to be bent and then heard other crap about the exhaust not being long enough or too long... i don't know, the more i search the more vague info i find... thanks Last edited by 2 Dot 5 RS; 09-07-2005 at 09:41 AM. |

It'll bolt up just fine. You're thinking of the intake. The '05 has a MAF sensor in the intake, 02-04 did not.

heheh, no problem man. Being an 05 guy I feel your pain, although if you know somebody with even basic metalworking skill, all you need to adapt most any 04-previous intake is a plate that bolts up to the maf with a round outlet on the other end to mate the piping up to. There's a vastly overpriced example of this in the Engine-->Intake section on boxer4racing.com. Definitely increases your possibilities.
