Default Cracked Cylinder, Time to Swap?

Yep, so my 98 legacy gt (phase 1 dohc ej25) has a cracked cylinder wall. STill waiting for my mechanic to give me the rest of the diagnosis. (He's looking at it for free, so his paying customers come first ). I'm thinking that now is as good a time as any to do the WRX swap. My question is, will the USDM ej20 make a reliable daily driver? I dont autox, or track my car. I dont drive it that hard. I'd just like some power to take down the local Honduhs in my area. I was planning on a TBE, and maybe a cobb ap or something similar. Any opinions, input, suggestions, flames etc are welcome. Thanks.

If the motor is in good shape, yes. If you are going to do it though, don't spend any more money on your current motor. Also, know that swaps are expensive as you need the ECU, injectors, fuel pump, harness, mounts, list goes on...don't know if tranny mounts right up. A turbo forester motor would prolly be better.

Who and how was it determined to be a cracked cylinder? Since the temperature hasnt gone below freezing yet in CT I find it hard to believe.

A bad head gasket is more likely.
