The lyrics aren't even factual.

i mean seriously if you're going to make a political song at least try to have factual information in your lyrics instead of just singing about what you saw or might've perceived from TV news reports about what's going on in NoLa.

with that said, Shrubya doesn't like POOR people it just so happened that these poor people are black.

You can't discuss class (poor/rich) without discussing race. This was on Real-Time with Bill Maher last night and an explination of why you can't seperate the union of class and race.

The majority of poor people in america are blacks, and the majority of blacks in america are poor. There's a significant number that aren't, true, but we're discussing majority.

and while we're on the subject of majority.

The majority of people in N.O. stranded are black, and poor. There are some white poor people, there are some white middle-class, and there are some black middle-class; but the majority are black poor people.

The strongest country in the world cannot provide busses to remove it's citiens from a path of devestation. I tell you now that if we knew three hours before 9/11 was going to happen that it was going to happen, those buildings wouldn't have had a goddamn soul in them.

Class is just another function of Race.

right-click>save-as.

I do disagree with the song lyrics though... it is not that George Bush doesn't like Black people, it is that George Bush doesn't like people.

Yup, it's the governments fault that a hurricane went through and the poor people didn't do anything about it. I've learned one thing in my life, and that is to rely on myself to make things happen. IF someone else helps me out, I consider myself very lucky. IF my family helps me out, I consider myself very lucky. But to stay in the path of a cat 5 hurricane is beyond stupid.

It would be the local governments fault that they did not provide the busses for the poor to evacuate; you know, the ones who don't have cars, probably can't walk very far. Infact, as I've heard it; they were informed that busses would be coming - went to the dome for shelter to wait for the busses, then they didn't show. But that's just as I've heard it.

Past this point, it would be at the state level where they failed to call FEMA into the action immediately afterwards; shocked I guess? the way I heard it is they waited a day, if not more, before getting the national guard in on it.

when FEMA was activated, at least how I've heard it, they failed entirely because the director was some right wing conservative election ****-buddy with no experience in emergency management. Boy I wish I could get a job like that.

I stress to point out that the hurricanes that hit southern florida BEFORE this event (like years before), we had absolutely no problem with the response. Why now?

your stats/basis is all wrong. There are waaaaaaaay more poor white people than poor black people. That being said, the poor are disproportionately black.

FEMA leader's last job involved these:

So you can see that he was plenty qualified to handle natural disasters, right?!?

Well actually there were many problems and delays with the hurricane (andrews?) that hit FL right before the last election, but that was all taken care of by way over-compensating home owners down there that have minor damages. Hush-money if you will. That should have been a wake-up call, but alas, we never learn from past mistakes, and Bush being the irresponsible person that he is, did nothign to improve response time. Glad to see that all the thing that Clinton did to take politics out of agencies like FEMA were totaly abandonded when Bush came to power.

I would tend to agree with the "only rely on myself to get things done" comment.

But we pay the government oodles of money a year to protect and serve the people of this country. They obviously didn't do it with NoLa (and other communities)

Now, FEMA and DHS told NoLa and all the communities in the gulf to be self sufficient for 72 hours. It takes some time to get the logistics of sending 1600 troops (and all their supplies) a day to an area. Plus you can't air lift all those troops and trucks*, they have to be driven.

NoLa was self sufficient, they had 72hours worth of food and water at the superdome for 1500 (15,000?) people. They had 3000 (30,000?) people show up which cut their food/water rations down to 36 hours worth. But it's better than other communities in the gulf that didn't even plan ahead or gather supplies to be self sufficient. That's where the local government ephed up.

Where the national government ****ed up was sitting on their asses playing the blame game, spinning politics, and not even -knowing- that conditions were as bad as they were in NoLa. FEMA was quoted as saying that they didn't even know how bad the convention center was until they saw it on the news. Then they didn't believe the reports saying they were overhyped. Hello, you're ****ing FEMA it's your job to KNOW what's going on in a disaster area.

FEMA, DHS, DOD, etc should've been dispatching troops with supplies to NOLA the night the hurricane was off the shore of LA. The NHC missed landfall of the eye by ten miles, ten miles! that's pretty good prediction right there, and you mean to tell me -nobody- would've guessed that the hurricane was going to hit the NoLa area?

Everyone dropped the ball. Mayor Nagin, the NoLa PD, the NG, FEMA, DHS, and DOD. Everyone's to blame for leaving those people stranded for 5 days. Oh and shrub going down to Biloxi to hug and cry with people, what a nice show of politics.

IBmoved to PP.

* I guess in theory you could airlift the trucks in C5s and airdrop them in NoLa but that would cost too much especially for a country actively involved in building "democracy" in Iraq.

If you want to get out of a city bad enough its not that hard... rent a car, buy a bus ticket, hop in with a friend, etc etc. If the govt said everyone who evacuates to houston will get 1million dollars i gurantee you everyone would have found a way to get to houston. They were too dumb and lazy to leave the city

The word "poor" really has no meaning for you, does it? It's just an abstract concept.

Where would you go?

30,000 people walking out of the city? In 24 hours they MIGHT have gotten 25 miles inland... where they'd have been exposed to 140+ mph winds and likely all died from exposure and flying debris.

Good thinking, I like that initiative...
