A hidden hitch?

Like the brand name?

or literally a hidden hitch?

I am looking into hitches right now and they are all visible just under the bumper, I had one on my WRX and it wasn't that bad.

The best deal I have found so far is

drawtite-hitches.com

I think they are all very similar and they all bolt on priced from $125 to $350

I was pointed here originally by Opie, and I've heard nothing but good about them as well. They have great prices and it's where I bought the Drawtite hitch for my RS.

Does anyone have a pic they can post that shows any of these installed on a legacy wagon or an outback? I would be interested to see how obvious they are. The link sites just have the hitches by themselves.

Here's a standard Draw-Tite Class II on my '98. The Class II is rated for 300 lbs tongue and 3500 lbs capacity- much more than the car can actually handle. But I wanted to have the more substantial chunk o' metal back there. I would speculate that a Class I would be smaller and perhaps more unobtrusive, but I've never seen one up close.

Whoa! That *IS* pretty stealthy isn't it? Just out of curiousity, how much clearance does that eat up? 1" or 2" maybe? (I wonder how many wagons/outbacks are sneaking around here with those things??? I will have to pay better attention from now on...) Thanks KD7000!

Ground clearance? It takes up a couple inches, I'd guess. I've never had any kind of problem with it hitting anything, if that's what you're concerned about.

I suppose on a deeply rutted or rocky Rally-X course, it might be an issue. I could go take some actual measurements if you want.

It does make it slightly harder to jack the car up under the rear diff from the back with a floor jack, as there's less room to swing the handle. Not impossible, but a bit annoying.
