Default So when are they gonna put the H6 in a manual transmission?

Has SOA made any comment at all about their future plans for that engine? Seems logical to me that that will be their next use-in-everything engine (like the 2.5 is now). The Legacy needs it badly! Yes, I will send SOA an email.

Default I KNOW >>> I KNOW>>>

When the B4 doesn't make it over here...otherwise, it won't!

Let us just hope the B4 comes over so we won't need the H6 w/ 5-sp manual!

Default actually

I know its a compromise but the H-6 with a manual (6-speed hopefully) would be a hoot.

Thumbs down No Manual Tranny

I was informed by a Subaru Owner over at:pub1.ezboard.com/fultimatesubarumessageboardsthenewgenerationofsuba rus that there will not be a Manual Transmission forthcoming for the H6.

Apparently it chewed them up and spat them out during testing, that is why you only get the choice of a H6 with an Auto.

I too wanted a H6 with a Manual Tranny , but ended up with a MY00 Liberty RX 2.5 Manual Sedan as it was the only manual tranny vehicle available in Australia at the time.

Subaru's 5MT is synonymously weak, and wouldn't be very reliable at all with that much torque.

Sure the WRX has torque, but it also has a low-compression engine and boost mappings to save gears. The H6 would have teeth flying in less than 10k miles, if that.

The new 6-speed might be the ticket.

I like my automatic

Then why is it folks like Honda, Nissa & VW/Audi have v6 engines, fairly torquey, all mounted to manual trannies? If they can make decent MTs, why not Subaru?

I don't know how they're going to sell their sport truck concept w/o a decent MT.

Subaru is going to sell their sport truck concept w/o a manual, because how many people do you know who drive trucks who also drive a manual? I know precisely zero. Face it, Americans don't really like rowing their own, unfortunately.

Personally, having driven an H6-equipped car, I don't see the real point of that engine with a manual. It's performance chracteristics aren't of the kind that would lend themselves to a manual-transmissioned car. I'd much rather see any kind of turbo motor in a high-performance Legacy.

Apparently, the difference that AWD makes, also makes it difficult to design a cost-effective manual transmission. There was a discussion about this very thing in the transmission forum, related to Subaru's allegedly "weak" transmissions.

Lightbulb Manual Trannies!

Well if AWD makes all the diff and Subaru can't make a robust manual tranny to suit the H6 then consult some with people like Borg-Warner etc who have the expertise in that area.

Default hmmm

I think a manually tranny would improve the driving charateristics of just about any car.
