They do indeed handle pretty well. At my local autoXs they consistantly finish at the top of their respective classes. Not a lot of room though. Test drive one and see.

is wrx compared to everything I'm already noticing? Minis handle but are by no means "fast" . A Mini can keep up with anything and pass it in the twisties, their handling is unreal my buddy used to have a nicely modded one. Straight line tho modded, no quicker than the older WRX's imo

those things are slow as hell! it does feel really quick when you drive em cuz they are so damn small! the 0-60 numbers on the cooper s WITH cooper works ($5k more) will give you 6.4 secs acceleration. i went into the cooper forums to see who had the best accel time that i could find and the guy said he had 6.1 with a bunch of mods and the cooper works.
the mini is not about speed but fun. it takes curves AMAZINGLY! i test drove one and loved it. i was actually thinking on getting one instead of the 06 wrx but my friend has one and not even a dog feets in the back seats! im just 5ft 8" tall and i hate the back seat. another thing is that with the huge cars and trucks u americans have you feel like you are gonna die with every car that passes close to u. without the cooper works the car is nothingfor speed.

What do you want the car to do. If going fast is your only concern go buy yourself a vette. If you want a car that can drive well in any road condition and is as fast or almost as fast as an affordable vette get a WRX, unless your single and just want a car to get from point A to B, then a Mini is great, they are easy, not as easy as the old ones, to park but they are not a rally car anymore.

The WRX doesn't really compare to the Mini anymore than the Forester XT ever did to the Chrysler Crossfire. Although the Mini is a little bit closer it still isn't a WRX or in the same class.

The mini Is marketed as a novelty car and has that kind of feel inside and out.
Very sporty yet cute and gadgety appeal. Handling as part of the heritage and entertainment. Not a drag racer by any intention. Id pick this one if I had to get across town in a hurry.

WRX is equiped to perform accepably in almost any role; With modification needed to excel in any specialization. A mid upper level starting platform.

Id not have chosen any other wagon in any price range given pros and cons.

Stock they run 6.7secs 0-60mph. We own a 2003 MCS 6 speed, Chilli Red with black roof. They handle amazingly. They will beat a WRX from a roll (Trust me, we have tried). The front seat has a lot more room than the WRX. The backseat is just what you would expect from a car that size. I'll say it this way, if you want quick fun and reliable and still enjoy 30+mpg MCS is the way to go. Make sure to get a newer one with the LSD because ours doesn't have it and the ACS is working overtime. Does really well in the snow by the way too.

Fastest car I rode in at the last autocross I attended was a bone stock MCS. Very quick, well balanced car. Yes, all the rest of the cars I rode in were Subarus.

mini=small, small small, oh, and expensive, and they break a lot.

We had friends that just dumped their cooper mini (not an S though). They always bitched that they had no room, and that the payments were through the roof (they bought it used and still paid $21000 for it!). Then it started breaking. First the battery went, then it just started dying randomly.

They now own a Mercury Mariner and a scooter. Yeah, they're weird, but I wouldn't buy a Cooper. They have all of the repair and maintenance costs of a BMW with none of the reliability.

if you like girls staring at you (which is great) and guys thinking your car is gay (american culture) get the cooper. if you want guys staring at your car and fearing you, get the wrx, but girls will never know you are there. (which sucks)

'03 MCS (stock - sport package) is the wife's daily driver - I love driving it. It's been very reliable (36K miles with no issues).

It handled our mild NC winter with ease (on snow/icy roads).

It outhandles a stock WRX easily. It does not, however, provide the kick in the pants acceleration that the WRX gives you at 3500 RPM. The MCS Getrag 6-speed tranny is like butter though -- and feels SO much more solid than the WRX 5-speed.

Build quality is solid -- doors are pretty much vaultlike compared to WRX - even though the MCS also has frameless windows.

Mini has plenty of room. I'm 6'3" and front legroom is better in the MCS than in the WRX (now 9-2x for me). We've carried 4 adults in the MCS with no problem or discomfort as well as picnic/tailgating supplies in the boot (cooler/basket/chairs).
