Default 04 STi idle bouncing.

When I drive my STi kinda hard 5500 max revs the idle will drop to 1000 then bounce to like 1500-1800 and then drop back to idle at 500. Is this normal or what.

Is your car stock? My car behaves this way too, but only after Ecutek reflash, green, pe850, bigmaf. Only seems to happen when in neutral.

I would bet that if one connects an OBDII software or DelataDash the idle will be at 740 rpm.

What you are inquiring is that when you shift between gears and then you either press the clutch in or put it in neutral as you come to stop the idle take a few extra seconds to come to a steady 740. Which is pretty normal. Now if you start the car bring it to a complete warmed up stage and then the idle is not at 740 while you stay still, then you may want to run some logs to see what is going on. If the car is stock take it to the dealer. Also the idle may not be perfect after you reset the ECU as it adjusts trimming etc.. If you have aftermarket injectors etc.. it becomes even more difficult and it is very much based on tuning.

Regards

Nick

I changed plugs today and removed the battery wich caused ECU to reset. The first thing I noticed was that my STI was dropping to 500(the first line) then back to 750 when coming to stop signs. It idled ok when it was cold at high idle, but started jumping after driving and coming to stops.I hope it is just from resetting the ecu.I never noticed this before on my car. Will it come back to normal after a while?

I had something similar on my car. I went with a different tuner after I got my FMIC and catback and on that tune, the car would learn in (after running for 50+miles) and then when coming to a stop the idle would surge up to 1500-2000 then drop down. Drove me up the wall.

Well, long story short, I was never happy with the refineness of the tune, so I went back to my original tuner and theirs is smooth as silk and doesn't throttle up as excessively when coming to a stop. I think the high idle on stop is normal up to about 900rpm then settling to the specified idle, but 1500-2000 was just annoying and wrong.

For me, it was definatly in the tune.
