Angry MAYDAY! Sat dish is down, must see WRC coverage

Hey all, after wrestling with my DSS dish for most of today, I still have Bupkus for reception. Is there ANYONE that can tape tomorrows coverage of the WRC year in review on speedvision for me? I have the 99 year in review for trade, or cash, or first born, or whatever!! HELP!!!!!!!

Dan - Flyn 555

Or does anyone know someone that does dish installs, and how much it costs? I think I need to move mine, during the summer I could only get 70% signal, was just too lazy to move it then.

Kyle was planning on taping the whole thing and we'll probably have some kinda mini-meet to all get together and watch it sometime. You're lucky, I don't even have Speedvision.

Buy a new dish. Sounds crazy, but while I spent $150 for mine, Radio Shack and presumably other places now have them for $99.95 which includes free 'professional' installation.

That said, here's what I learned installing mine last year. The aiming coordinates provided are a very, very rough estimate. Think about it, they are the same for all of Northern Illinois. I installed mine where I had a clear line to where the satellite should have been. After struggling with it for a few days, I called the Radio Shack where I bought it and asked for their installer. He came out ( on my dime ) and used a handheld meter to determine that the tree in my neighbor's yard which should have been 10 degrees out of the way was blocking the signal.

He was cool, and didn't charge me anything, and I relocated the dish myself, and have had no problems since. Only the heaviest thunderstorms break-up the signal now.

Speaking of which, just this weekend I found RG6 faceplates at a different Home Depot and finished up the cosmetics of the install ( yes, more than a year later ). I have an RG6 crimper, connectors and spare cable if you need it.

What do you mean '70 percent' signal? If your signal strength was in the seventies, you were fine. Anything over 65 is okay, IIRC.

IIRC, my friend's dad set up their dish by hand (with a compass!) and got a 92% signal. I believe he said they were trying for over 85%.

Same here, my friends dad came over with a ladder and a compass, he sat out on the roof, while I sat inside listening to that awful signal. He got it up with a compass. Glad to see you worked everything out.
