Default Question for BD Owners

I was just seeing if I was going to be the only one with a 6 speed, or if I was just going to be one of the few. The 6 speed will be going in sometime early next week (Possibly even this weekend, if I can get everything sorted). I swore when I broke something with the RWD setup, I'd be going back to AWD... Tonight on the way home from work, I'm pretty sure I either broke the center diff, the transfer gears, or the splines that go into the center diff. We'll find out within the next few days what I actually broke.

Nope not the first… Jeremy Siwek (JSiwek) has a 6/MT from a JDM V5 sti in his boosted BD. He’s the guy with the HOT silver BD in the “Readers Rides” section of the June Subie Sport.

One thing I’ve learned with my boosted BD project is that you’ll never be the first with a unique idea for the BD, there’s always at least one person who’s done it before. Although the RWD has got to be getting close...

…although I still have a few tricks up my sleeve…

A 2000 would be a BE/BH... I know of at least one BE Legacy that has a 6MT.

I'm almost positive that the first car to have the 6MT was the Version 7, MY2000, although I could be wrong. I saw the car in Subiesport... I believe he had a VF22? I thought it said he only had a RA 5MT though.

RWD was fun while it lasted. Although it was just a matter of time before something broke. I was expecting an axle, or the 3.7 rear diff to break... but it seems my welds on the center diff or the transfer gears broke.

I will do a thorough write up with lots of pics. I'm not going to do the R180 or the brembos yet. I might do the r180 later on this winter when we have axles built to fit the R180 Diff and the R160 hubs. I don't want to buy new wheels to fit the brembos, and I can't afford the added cost right now. Hopefully this winter I'll be able to.

Hmmm... not sure, the article doesn't really say

It says he's got an RA V5 STI tranny, so it's from a JDM Version-5 STI but is that a 5 or 6 speed?

I'm pretty certain that the 6MT started with the Ver7 STi. Ver5/6 still had the 5MT. 95%.....99% certain.

You have a BD and your girlfriend also has a BD?

Match made in heaven?

How does the JDM versions 6 speeds compare to the USDM in strength?

Case is the same, but the JDM tranny has steel shift forks. US has aluminum.

Non-strength wise: JDM 5th and 6th gear are a closer ratio than the US tranny, therefore eliminate the aggrevating quasi-'grind' from 4th to 5th in the US STi.

NICE!!! G/F has a BD with a 6spd....mm mmm mm...there's another keeper!!! Man, where do you guys find these women!!??!

Aren't the JDM/USDM 6MT pressure lubricated too whereas the USDM 5MTs are splash/wash lubricated?

http://www.rallispec.com/product-gearbox.htm

My assumption is that this description on RalliSpec's site is saying yes.

6mt's started with V6/7 drivetrains, so if he has a full v5 drivetrain it is 5mt. I dont ever remember Jsiwek listing a six speed but i could be wrong, maybe it is new.

yea serious was the first to do a six speed in a BD in the states that i know of.

however he has not posted really since he did that swap, nor have I seen any pics of it.
