Cool Tinted my tails-pics (56k maybe not)

So I can't afford to source JDM/B4 tails so I decided to tint mine. It took about 4 hours start to finish but I did it while I was washing the car so time flew. Anyway, here's some pics and before/after shots: (Sorry about the pic size, haven't figured out how to resize on my new computer yet.)

Before shot:

Materials: Testor's model car tint(it took 2 cans), Clear coat, cold beer.

I used painters tape to cover up the back up lights because I didn't want to tint them. I used about 5 or 6 very light coats of tint(all of both bottles) and 3 layers of clear. Here's the results:

I'll get a daylight pic tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks sharp, but probably a little dark for my taste. I think that might be just the picture quality. I'll be interested to see the daylight shots.

looks nice, I would love to see a pic of them just on and lit up at night at like 30 feet away. did you just paint the outside and mask off the clear and reflectors?

good job.

Looks sweet. You can buy tinting spray. it only takes about one coat to get to where your tails are at right now

As promised:

I need to wetsand them and do one more coat of clear, they're a little dull right now.

Ben- Ya, I masked off the clear section (reverse lights), everything else got tinted.

As for light visibility, there is literally no difference at night, slightly darker in the daytime, but still safe. Thanks for the compliments!

that looks really good, i like it.

so all you did was spray the outside of the lights with the tinting spray? That seems easy enough for even me to do! hahah

although i'd probably wanna pick up a cheap used set of tailights, that way when i sell the car, they will look stock.

also, has anyone thought about putting in some strobes? would look kinda cool, haha.

Yup, just model car tint and clearcoat. And I pray that you're joking about the strobes.

Looks good. If you remember update me in 6 months and let us know how they look then. I know that most people have had issues with it scraping/peeling off after time and they have to respray.

I just want to go on record as a Miller Lite guy! Bud was all we had in the fridge though

Believe it or not, the light output is absolutely no different at night. Daytime is only a little bit darker.

I don't think he was joking about the strobes... after all, he IS from massachusettes... Those guys are "wicked retarded"...

I'd be very worried about this spray chipping or scratching and looking bad after a few months. Hope it still looks that good next spring.

^^^ I think they should be alright. They have a lot of clear on them and a good layer of wax. More after this weekend of wetsanding and re-spraying.

If they do crack, I guess I'll be forced to buy B4 tails
