Default P&P VF22 VS. P&P VF34 cannot decide need help

i have been looking at purchasing a turbo for a daily driver and i thought that i had my mind made up but then i found a different turbo.

Ok here goes i like the peak hp that you can get out of the 22 but the lag thing sucks so i thought about getting the vf30. With it there is not as much lag but the peak power that i want is gone. Now i am considering a vf34 which is very close to the 22's power and spools even faster than the 30.
I have fried my brain trying to decide. How much of a difference would a P&P do for the 22 and 34? The purpose of the upgrade is to make my car go faster than some others in a short amount of time for reference purposes only about 3 stop lights (a 1/4 mile). not that i would ever race on the street. i also like to take the car the the dragon every weekend so would the lag be a bad thing?

I would suggest a TD05H 16g for Deadbolt. I have installed one on a JDM MY95 WRX wagon and its awsome. Its more $$$ but its worth every penny. Besides if you install it and want more down the road, you simply upgrade it. Cant do that with a VF series.

You can actually pick up a TD05H 16G for around the same price as most VF34's are selling for, but will pay a little bit more for the Super16G. They're easily upgradable, and if you buy from Deadbolt they offer free rebuild ect for life. Another emerging turbo that seems to have a bit of potential is the EJ5-40T from Momentum, it seems to be putting down a little more power than a VF34, while having nearly identical spoolup. Although if you went with a VF34/22, they actually can be upgraded, Deadbolt offers a compressor wheel upgrade for both of them to get them up to PE1818/20 specs. Maybe not AS MUCH of the upgrade potential as the 16G, but an upgrade nonetheless.

Sounds like you'd be wanting more of a streetable turbo. Seems like a vf30 or 34 would be best. Not saying that a 22 isn't streetable but PnP will definitely help. What type of EM do you have, if any? If Cobb, then a vf30/34 would be the easier route.

Lag doesnt matter on the strip.

For the most part, lag isn't that big of a deal on a drag strip, seeing how most of us launch under/around full boost anyway, but it does make a difference on the street or at an AutoX where you're constantly downshifting ect.

i agree with vf30/34 if you have cobb, im planning on one or the other in the future because there is a map for the accessport that i can load up, and then get a protune from there. easy IMO.

I have a deadbolt P&P VF22 and it has been great so far. I honestly feared of lag but I don't find it there. I think part of it was Vishnu's great tuning and the top end is very nice. It feels like the stock turbo when it builds up the power but then it keeps going unlike the stock turbo when it fell on its face after 5500 rpm.

I am not sure where you are located but if you are close to the NYC area, I will be glad to let you test drive my car and try it for yourself.

right now i have a utec. i also want to have a turbo that is not going to push me too far on the tranny gears. i will be doing a lot of downshifting if i am to go to the dragon every weekend so i guess that it sounds like a P&P vf34 is going to be the answer but i will have to lookup that other turbo that has a little more power but around the same spool as the 34. i will definatly want the faster spooling turbo since i just bought a front mount(more lag as compared to a top mount)

Thanks for the news flash, i know that the vf34 has the same power that the vf30 does but i said that the vf34 spools faster than the 30 not that it had more power. you might want to read what i said again.

If you're looking for info on the EJ5-40T look no further than the Proven Power Bragging section. PDX took the same car, with the same mods, only difference being the turbo (EJ5-40T vs VF34), and it looked like the 40T came on a tad bit earlier, made more midrange and held up redline, looked like it made about 10whp at peak. Check it out: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=828403

Almost-MAC autosport did the vf34 vs EJ540t tune where the car had the same mods, different turbos. That graph is on the front page of our website, www.momentumturbos.com

PDX tested the EJ540T against a 18g, and the 18g won, but the 18g also was on a different car and had a front mount intercooler, where the EJ540t had a top mount, so it wasn't a good apples to apples comparison....

Oh sorry about that, PDX posted it, so I made an assumption they tuned it as well, still looks like an awesome turbo for people considering a VF34.
