Question Problems with my RS

I lowered my RS Wagon about a week ago. Last weekend I had my rims and tires put on. Ever since the rims and tires were put on Ive been having a grinding noise that sounds like its coming from the center or more towards the back of my car. The noise only seems to be occuring when Im in first gear hitting aroung 3500 to 4000 rpms and when I am backing up. Could this be a suspension problem? rubbing of the wheels? Or could something have been cracked when the wheels were put on? Any feed back would be great.

hmmm, you should be able to tell if the tires are rubbing on the fenders... if they're not, then maybe see if they are rubbing on the fenderwells. It also could be soething with the brakes, maybe the wheels are too close or something of that nature.

Im sorry... forgive me.. I do have spacers. The thing is... I had felt around on my fenders and even took off my rear right wheel and there seems to be no damage. I called my dealership and told them about the noise and they said it could be that these certain bolts on the bottom of my car are loose after lowering it... but then... why would it make the noise after putting on the wheels... im thinking.. when they put them on something went wrong... but what could they have damaged???

What size wheels/tires and offset and spacer size? How low did you go? You may well be rubbing if you have the wrong offset wheels and dropped too much.
Search in the wheels and tires forum.
There is pretty much nothing that can go wrong in mounting wheels except snapping a lug bolt.
My guess is that you are rubbing on the strut or fender due to wrong wheel offset.

Just saw your other post re 18" enkei's. Pretty tough fit for 18" on a wagon without rubbing. You will likely have to A) go back to stock springs B) roll fenders C) change wheels D) change tires or E) some combination of the above. Good luck.

The thing is though... if there was rubbing.... wouldnt I be able to tell by feeling the fender... I took of the rear right wheel last night ( because I thought I heard the noise coming from there )...and there was no sign of rubbing... on the fender or the wheel.

Look at the spring perch on the strut...any paint missing?
Suggest putting tape on the fender lip and spring perch. Get some friends to sit in the back and drive quickly around a few corner and over some bumps to see what's what.
Also if you post your tire model, tire size ???/??/18, wheel offset, spacer size and the kind of lower springs somebody will know if they will work or not.

Also here it goes

The noise seems to be coming from under the passenger side rear seat area. The sounds like the sound could be coming from the area where a bushing is located to the area where it is connected to the car undercarriage. On each side of the car under the back seat area you have a bar connecting to the car to the center of the car. I was told this is to keep the car centered while driving. I was told when this bushing goes out you get knocking sounds from this area when put under pressure. Can anyone verify this?

It may have been damaged while changing the wheels of the car. When jacking up the car, I tried to pick it up from the suggested area but when I did that, the area started to fold. Not as strong as they claim. So I found the best part possible to lift but did not notice that area had a bushing. So I lifted it and ever since then we have had this noise. I was told it could be possible I crushed the bushing so when under load it begins to vibrate and cause the ruff rubbing sound and knocks. Keep in mind this noise only happens when at times in reverse or under heavy load in first. The car has been lowered for three weeks with no noise or problems until just this past weekend when we put the wheels on.

where exactly did you jack the car and what did you use?

I'd tell you to find a meet and bring it there, but I have a feeling that would turn into a fiasco.

also, you might get better response by posting this in the Suspension and Braking Forum.
