PWN3D my problematic legacy...

soooooooo, i cant figure out whats wrong with my car... whats happening is when im stopped and try to hit the throttle, it studders and makes terrible chattery/whistling noises and then goes through the rpms, but thats not all!!! when im cruisin, if i hit the throttle either half way, or to the floor, above around 3000rpm, it makes a horrible screeching/whistling, almost turbo but not good, sound that changes in pitch as it goes higher into the rpms, and the car feels slower as well now...

i cannot figure out what the deal is with my car. i thought maybe a vaccum line was broken or off or somethin, but everything is intact. then i looked over the whole engine to see if there was anything out of the ordinary, but it didnt seem that way... the only thing i can think of right now is that its something electrical, or maybe even fuel related?

hopefully someone can help me out!

where does this whistle come from? front or rear of the car?

your model year legacy is known to whistle from the tail pipe under acceleration.

my 97 does it as well

I would check you belts and tensioner they would cause loud squeaks a weird times and if you had a bad tensioner it would cause the engine to run rough because it would have to work harder to push the belt.

belts arent loose or anythin, its gotta be somethin electrical because of the studdering and the noises. plus, if it were the belts, the pitch of the screeching wouldnt change throughout the rpm range i dont think.

im thinkin its somethin serious, but just dont know what yet...

Is it speed or RPM related? Does do it in neutral? Only under load?

Just to rule out the drivetrain.

I had some shrieking noise from the front of my engine for several months. It went away suddenly one day.....about 5 minutes before the water pump bearing ate itself.

You should get the timing belt off and spin the water pump pulley, alternator pulley, AC pulley, tensioner and the power steering pump pulley.

I have an AC belt that is missing bits on the inner grooves - it tends to whistle now.
