Default Can't decide 05 STI or 06 WRX ?

Anybody in this boat? Good deal on an 05 STI used with say 10K miles or brand new 06 WRX for about the same price with more "amenities"

They closed the gap with the 06 2.5l engine on the regular WRX and the TR (tuner ready) can be had for <$24,000

I'd go for the STi if it is in really good/condition. See if you can get an expert opinion if the car has not been "abused". Take advantage of the very bad resale value when you buy it used. Drive both and decide.

Me, i had to buy an 05 WRX. If i could have purchased an 05 STI that would have been the way I would go. Other than the few exterior changes, little has been done to make it "that" much better. I like the new DCCD. but any DCCD is better that none.

I'm kinda pissed that the 06 WRX has the AVCS and a 2.5, since that's what I've been saving for last few months. But here's to SUBARU for moving 1 step foward with all imprezas.

I know we've heard it a thousand times already but I wouldn't buy a WRX or STI in 06.....I really hate the look. I went down to the dealership the other day and spotted some....they're not as ugly as the pictures, but nearly just as bad.
If I wanted to drive a European looking car, I coulda kept the wife's jetta or bought myself a saab.....obviously we didn't.

Biggest diff is the tranny. Same shortblock and maybe even heads. Suspension-wise, STi takeoffs or coilovers are pretty cheap. Brakes are much better in the 06 WRX, but not quite "Brembo-licious". That leaves the tranny. If I could upgrade to a six speed, I wouldn't think about it for a minute.

Save yourself some heartache and buy from somebody you know or at least know through friends or acquaintances. If I see another used STi with a short ram intake and an atmospheric BOV, I'm gonna puke.

If you can't decide between a 06 WRX or 05 STI, get a Honda.

If you're in the NE area. I know where to get a black/silver 05 STI. It used to be mine.

Before you decide..... Drive them both.... I work for a dealer and I own an STi, and needless to say, the new WRX is impressive..... I would have a hard time justifying the price difference this year...... Think about it...

For a daily driver the wrx would be better (SO much more comfy), but if you want to misbehave, obviously the STi is the way to go. Or buy an evo and get the best of both

The 06 WRX is kinda ugly, I am 32 and don't care too much for the looks of these cars anyway but I guess resale would be better on the 05 STI and I would be getting a good deal. Man I am struggling. Sold my M3 and no matter what you say, it is hard to transition from Euro car luxury (other than the payments)

I think you should ask yourself exactly what you want in a car in general. If you're an agressive driver, who's #1 priority is hitting up the track, the STi would have my vote for sure. If you just enjoy the occasional spirited run, but appreciate daily driving qualities such as a smooth ride, the option of leather seats, moon roof, less overall cabin noise ect, you may want to consider the 06 WRX... if you planned on strictly drag racing, you may want to consider another car in general, although they do have awesome grip on street tires, that's not what they were made for. You may want to consider something with 4 more cylinders that's RWD. You should really analyze what you're really looking for in a car.... either way, go test drive both before you let other people make up your mind for you.

I love the way the new 06s look. And the seats in the 06 WRX look comfy, alot more so than the STi.

One big question I would have is insurance costs. The STI seems to be much higher than the WRX. Everything else being equal and if money is not a huge factor, I would go for the STI.
