Default broom broom idle

2000RS
142k mile
LW flywheel
stromung catback
Ganzflow intake

Idle makes funny noise as title says, broom..broom..broom. once a second or so. Its not enough of a rev to move the needle though. The lights also dimmed between each mini rev.

This is a new problem. did not exibit these symptoms when idle before commute home. Stopped at a light after drive (45 miles) and noticed it. Felt like it might stall, but I let it sit idle for a while and there was no change, normal idle with a broom broom...

no symptoms when driving
car feels and sounds good
no CEL

Did not sound like i popped a plug wire off, that usually makes a more distinct burble pop..rev...

i just filled up, could bad gas do this?
I have not had a chance to look over anything tonight, any ideas where should I start?

No bogging at all.
All hoses seem to be on.

Plugs on 1 & 3 felt like they needed to be Pushed on more (I have magnecore wires) The engine did not behave as if they were not on but I Gave em all a ood shove anyway.

The coil pack on 3 was nasty black and goopy, 1 was evenly white coated. 2 & 4 (4 was the cuplret last time the wire popped off) was nice and clean.

I cleaned em up and topped off the oil and coolant since i was there already.

The idle was fine when cool, but after it warmed up a bit(2 miles or so to the first traffic light), it behaved the same.

Normal driving was fine.
Acceleration is fine on to highway as well
If I ever so slighty touch the gas the idle will steady at 1000RPMs.

OK, New update.

Leaving the office today it was broom..brooming at the light, Threw a CEL.
Sit in traffic (car fire on a bridge) and it happens a bit more.
Arrive home hour and 20 later, no broom broom... noises. Steady idle.

I give it some time to see if it starts acting up again (5 minutes) but it is a perfectly smooth idle.

I'll try to find a code puller..
any thoughts on that?

Hey moogoob finally fixed my issue and posting it as well. My car had the same symptoms to a tee and after a week or two just progressed worst. Finally got the correct 02 sensor (#22791AA00A) and seemed to do the trick.

Try seafoam in your fuel tank? cleans up idle a bit.

Well, another update at 167k mile.

Directly after a fill up, it started again... same symptoms.
I coughed it up to another bad tank.
My optima battery arrived and was installed shortly after. No more funny idle. The old battery was the original (2000) that came with my RS and was having a real hard time starting the car.

Could low voltage from the Bat been my problem all along, or just another coincidence....
