Default Simple 05 legacy GT question...Top mount swap..

Can you install an intercooler from an 04-05 sti USDM V8 on the 05 leg gt (or the forester xt?) I have one sitting around and was wondering if i should send it up to my parents...

I don't think so.

Plus, I've *heard* that the stock LGT IC is more efficient than the STi one and it's plastic endtanks result in less heatsoak compared to the STi all metal design.

you cant on the 05 GT use it unless you change the IC, turbo, and intake manifold. you can use it on the XT.

They're physically different dimensions. The LGT one is smaller.
I recently assisted on an exhaust install on the LGT, and a friend with an 05 STi arrived, so we compared engine bays.

smaller IC is not always less efficient, I'd imagine the LGT one is more efficient as melayout says he *heard*

they are not just physically different dimensions, the turbo bolts to the IC, so it has a flange on its compressor outlet that bolts to the IC, then the IC outlet is on the bottom diagonal and goes into the throttle body that is actually under the intake manifold on the drivers side.
the LGT IC is in fact as efficient as the STi IC due to its crossflow and end tank layout even though its actual surface area is smaller.

isn't the LGT hood better for airflow to the IC also?

I am not sure, I have no data to back up a statement, the design seems like it may be able to have better flow, because the cut in the hood basically just lets air go straight through to the IC instead of pulling it in with the scoop like on the STi. But i really couldnt say for sure.

Josh...I've read that the LGT IC is more efficient than the STi one as well.

Have your Dad do this...

Relatively new Perrin TMIC here. Will go quick and price may be negotiable. Almost two times the size of the stock LGT TMIC and double the size of the cooling channels.
