Default heat shield noise

My heat shield on one of the factory headers is rattling really bad. I tryed to shim it to stop the rattle but it came back in about a month. Do I need them on? How can i take them off? They look like they are metal tabs folded over each other.

Did you put new ones back on?
What are they for? Keep gasses hot for the cat?

Mine were a little loose, rattling when I upshifted for about three years. A dealership once told me it was my synchros going bad. Yeah that was really interesting.

About two months ago, I had a performance shop check out the noise, and sure enough it was loose shields over the headers. A few tack welds later, and imagine that, presto chango, it's gone.

tack weld if you want to keep them, cut em off if ya dont! it so your car dosen't catch fire due to something being too close to the cat. not 100% necessary!
