Default valve adjustment on 2.5 Series 2 Outback

Greetings all,

How hard is it to adjust the valves on a 2.5 Series II? Are they the same design with shims as the Series I? The dealer did a head gasket courtesy of Subaru, but one of the valves is tapping when when the engine is warm. It's not bad-bad, but all the others are quiet. The dealer is recommending just leave it alone until the 105,000 mark and hit it then.

Also, this thing has a hesitation when it's cold and you step on the gas from a dead start, almost like the TPS is lagging behind the throttle plate and the fuel trim is trying to catch up (probably an inaccurate disgnosis, but...). Other than some slight surging at highway driving in 4th with the converter locked, it feels OK. Any ideas?

TA

You don't say how far away from 105,000 miles you are. The noisy valve is not a good thing...don't let it go.

If all were quiet before they did the work, they messed up somewhere and should make good on it for free. Naturally they want you to wait, so you can pay for it. :/
