Default Holy Crap! New Titan Motorsports Scion runs 6.55/218mph

Wow. I'm impressed. Are 5's coming soon? I saw it on the (I think) Vegas drag race coverage on Speed Channel. Simply amazing.

Is this the former Celica tube-frame chassis that ran 6's last year?

Heh no. It has a body that looks like a Scion and that's it. Tubeframe chassis built by a race shop and uses a 2JZ Supra motor, RWD.

Last year they also ran a "Celica" that was in the 6's. I thought someone posted the video.

Are you sure that wasn't Chris Rado and the World Motorsports guys? They are based 5 minutes from my house and they are running a scion body this year.

5 seconds seems a long way away from 6.55. I don't know much about drag racing, but isn't it once you hit a certain time, you have to add horsepower by the hundreds to get faster???

Yes. And as a direct result, cost goes up exponentially as well. I doubt this 'Scion' has much if anything in common with the 'Scion' you can buy at the dealer...

The simple formula I've seen indicate that horse power needed is proportional to the inverse of the time to the power of three. To get from 6.55 into the 5's, that's reducing the time by about 10%. To reduce the time by 10%, you would need 37% more horespower.

Or using one of the many calculators on the internet. Using 2500 lbs for the weight (no idea what it really is), it says that you need 1758 WHP to run a 6.55, and 2299 WHP to run a 5.99.

Impressive time until you look at what they are running. It is a tube frame running Toyota's strongest engine. A engine that is know for creating 1100+ HP without killing itself. The body is plastic and shares only a passing likeness to a regular Tc. Make those kinds of numbers from a stock bodied Tc with its normal engine then you will definately have my ear.

Sorry. Yeah, it was a tube frame car. Nothing stock bodied or FWD about it. Stretched chassis, plastic/fiberglass/carbon fiber everything. They're testing it at that speed though. To me, the car isn't even dialed in yet.

that insane fast!!! Funny how race cars will throw a car's shell on something nothing like what is noramlly under it and call it that car. Although, props for fitting so much go in such a small chassis...do the TCs actually have fairly large engine bays?

Differences:
tires are double the width
tube frame
carborator
coupe body style
no doors
lexan windows
suspension

How can you call the cars even remotely alike. Even the brand badges are different. At least WRC and BTC start with a production car.

The only part that looks remotely similar to the TC is the overall body _shape_. They don't actually use any part of the chassis/body, it's all either sheetmetal or fiberglass. Just like the nascar example, nascar is a tube-frame chassis and a sheetmetal body.

so this isnt fast to any of you? lol........of course its a race car, you go 6's in anything other than a tube chassis and tell me how safe it is. also, compare the cars in this import class running 6cyl's with those of the nhra pro-stock class running much bigger displacement, and tell me its not impressive. not to mention pro-stock technology has been in development for many many years compared to the imports.

^^ i agree. who cares that they call it a scion, its just what it looks like. its not like the celica bodied car they use shares anything with a celica, and the supra shared nothing with the stock car except the engine (probably only the block...albeit modified). Thats the way pro rwd is... twin turbo nsx powered civic, v6 powered cavaliers, straight 6 tCs. regardless of the body style, the car is still incredibly impressive.
