Default A compiled list of parts that Crossover to the 06

Those that have Earlier model WRX's..I am compiling a list of aftermarket stuff that will carry over to a new 06 WRX/STi

- Exhaust ...the 06 has a little different bend in it..but Aftermarket ones Bolt up like normal
-headers...with slight mod to oil cooler...(Rotate 30 degrees)
-Intercoolers...Some Front mounts work...some don't...because of the windshield bottle is now where some Chargepipes come up next to the battery
-Seats...just like always...06 is interchangable with previous models..and vice vesa...
-Suspension...for springs..you can use the 04-05 stuff...for struts..02-05 WRX will work...same tophats as the 04-05...so any 02-05 Coilovers will work with the WRX...if your interested in Coilovers for the STi...same as 05
-Rims...06 WRX including the TR has a 5x100 bolt pattern..just like before...
the 06 STi is just like the 05 with a 5x114.3 bolt pattern
-Brakes...The Std..WRX, TR , Wagon all have the Std Subaru 4pots in the front..so pad selection is already good..(Nissan 96 TT Z pads)..Rotor size is the same as before..
Rear Brakes are now Subaru 2 pots...just like the Ver5/6/22b flavor...rotor size is the same as a 05 LGT..so the H6 Upgrade will not be needed since they are bigger rears from the factory......Std WRX Stainless Brake lines will fit fine on the 06's..
-Body Stuff...anything on the sideskirts..and rear bumper stuff is the same as it was on the 04-05 cars..
-Engine management....this is where it gets weird...anything for for the STi...UTEC, Hydra, AP, Ecutek...will work...
Suposedly...EcuTek will work on 06 WRX's...UTEC's will not...due to the Airpump on the engine now...along with the Fuel pump Power wire is in a different pinout...
Don't think the AP will work either...not sure on that one...
-Turbos will be the same interchangability as it always has...

Hopefully this will help some of you 06 owners...so you can kinda figure out whats what...

Engine managment is going to be key here...depending on what has to be done...

Bill

So stock 02-05 16" WRX wheels will not fit, right? Just in case anyone has snows on older WRX wheels. AFAIK 98-01 16" RS wheels do clear the four pots.

I'm told (by the dealer I bought my 06 from, take from that what you will) that 98 and 01 16" RS wheels DO fit for sure (by their own tests). They hadn't tested 99 and 00 wheels but the assumption is they'll fit fine. 02-05 WRX 16" wheels do NOT fit.

Also, while I've been waiting for my car to arrive, I've been shopping around for strut tower braces. I've asked a couple online shops if the STI pink replica braces would fit the 06 WRX, and have gotten mixed results. Two shops simply said they wouldn't fit, 1 shop said the upper rear was OK on the 06 sedan (through experience), another shop found that the upper front did NOT fit the 06 STI, but was not sure about the 06 WRX.

So the long and short is that something has changed with in and around the strut towers/firewall area that is causing fitment issues with the STI replica front brace, on the STI for sure and likely on the WRX as well. I haven't inquired about braces from other manufacturers.

Cool

This is a great thread. I don't think Subaru Performance has made a new catalogue stating what will and wont work or carry over onto the 06 models. I just got the brochures for the 06 Impreza's along with the other little brochures including the STi (little i meaning 05 and below) catalogue.

Come to think of it I've been meaning to see if I can order the STI parts on the intarweb.

Later.

What about regular Impreza's? I'm new to the Subaru world. I just purchased an '06 2.5i and want to know what will work.

This has probably been covered in another thread... but iirc the problem with strut braces on the '06 is interference with the A/C hardline. Here's a link w/ some pics:

It looks like Esemes found one that will work (JDM STi carbon/alum), but still isn't satisfied with the fit...

Yes,
I have a KN Typhoon on my 06 and it bolted on with no problems.

I also have a Cobb ss that I slapped right in with no problems as well.

complete turbo back went on with no problems as well.

STI tmic is on w/ Perrin silicon Y pipe, no problems.

Did have problems with tower brace hitting tmic. Have tried 3 different ones and all of them hit. The one pictured above looks to have good clearance and the AC line can be bent down a bit. Just don't yank on it. Take your time and you will be fine. Like I said, I did not have a problem clearing the ac line rather it was the tmic that was hitting all the way across the bar on all three braces we tried.

Yep! Just got my new Perrin endlinks last night. Bolted right on.

Also, radiator hose, tmic, silicon Y pipe, turbo inlet pipe, gauge pod (center dash) all the same or bolt right on if you will.

the rear springs are different and NOT interchangeable....if you swap the entire strut assemblies, no problemo '02-'06--sedan to sedan or wagon to wagon

'02-'05 OEM WRX wheels will clear 4-pots. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about. I've driven a bugeye WRX with stock wheels and 4 pots. You might need a spacer but they will fit fine.

I have the STi replica pink braces on my 06 WRX, the front fits fine no problem. the rear was a little hard to fit, had to bend the lip around the hole going into the trunk so the braces would fit, but I had to do that on my 02 WRX as well.

Also the Perrin intercooler hoses dont work properly on the 06. The Y-pipe fits with some persuading but not a perfect fit, the hose from the throttlebody to the intercooler fits fine. The recirc. hose of the recirc valve does not fit properly, it gets squished by the throttle position sensor.

I read that some engine managment works from 04-05 to the 06. Can anyone verify if the Cobb AP's work?

Aftermarket exhausts need to have a flange reversed and some models require a spacer to be welded in.
