Post Free Parking Ticket

Just some info for everyone.
Maybe everyone already knows this but you're allowed one free parking ticket per vehile plate. This applies to tickets recieved at meters in the City of Vancouver. If you get a ticket at a meter in the City of Vancouver just call this number 604-257-8732 and tell them you want to use your free ticket. Not sure if they need the ticket number or just your plate number.
It's only one free ticket per plate, that's for the entire life of the plate so I'm assuming if you get new plates you'd get another free ticket.
A friend just told me this so I can't answer any more details. Not sure if other municipalities (Richmond, Burnaby) do the same thing or not.
I like how they tell everyone this, buggers. So next time you get to your car as the parking person is putting a ticket on, don't get mad, just tell them, "Cool, a free ticket. Thanks for wasting your time like that."
Note: I haven't tried this yet since I don't have a parking ticket but I thought it might save someone $25.

Yeah, I heard the same on the radio a few weeks ago. Someone called in later and said they just tried it, and it was true.

I just don't pay them and I ignore the summons. Like most other cities, I think there's a shelf life to these types of records.

Yeah, my friend told me the same thing 'bout the 1-free ticket thingey. Haven't had to test it out yet. I believe they call it a courtesy ticket or something like that.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Dude.. are you for real??? I was doing nothing of great importantance just now, so I decided to call them up to see what the deal is.. (Not that I have any outstanding tickets.. just felt like being a goof) haha.. it turns out the person I was talking to haven't even heard of such a thing!!

Maybe it's just the way I asked.. 'cuz my exact words were "Is this free parking ticket thing for real???"

Haha.. Have a great weekend everyone.

Guess you must of asked incorrectly or called the wrong number. I just called and confirmed that it works. My g/f just 'erased' a ticket she got last week.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE. If you call and the person says they don't know what you're talking about, ask to talk to someone else or call back later.

Wow... neat! But if there anyway to confirm that the ticket is actually erased? Because someone could easily post up some bogus number and have people answer the phone and fake it.
If you tell them the ticket number, they should be able to tell you your car and location and time of the ticket, right?

Yup, I called the right number for sure. Guess I just have to be talking to the right person.

When I called they asked for either the ticket number or the vehicle's plate number.
And when they answer the phone it's something like, "Parking violation information line." or something like that.
Anyways, if you don't want to believe it, then just go pay the next parking ticket you get. I was just trying to let everyone know.....

Kevin:
Woah... no offense intended... I'm sure we're all glad you posted this info... I'm just being a bit inquisitive (and skeptical).

No problem, no offense taken
And you're correct to be skeptical about anything you read on the internet...

IT'S TRUE!!!
The officer that gave me a ticket about a month ago told me this. Just call the # on the back of the ticket!
My brother tried that a year ago too
