Thumbs down Gerald Subaru Naperville IL

...So my dealer changed the head gaskets on my 98 RS because it was overheating. I picked it up on Tuesday, drove it about 40 miles and now clutch is dead. Called the dealer up and they said it`s not related to the work they done and that they did not touch the clutch. But in fact i know they did because the clutch was re-adjusted. It used to grip on the bottom now it was towards the top.
Anyways they said they won`t do it for free or under any warranty. SOA said I can go to Better Business Bureau if I want and / or sue the dealer.

The Clutch isn't related to head gaskets..perhaps you should get a repair manual before you decide to get a lawyer...it's your responsibility.

Default DEALERS

THIS REPLY IS FOR GREG555 AND ANYONE ELSE WHO LIKES TO BASH DEALERS. IN RESPONSE TO GREG555 WHO KNOWS ABOUT CARS(AT LEAST HE SAYS HE DOES) HE SHOULD THEN KNOW WHEN YOU REPLACE HEAD GASKETS ON A SUBARU THEY ARE ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE AREA, NOT IN THE REAR BEHIND THE ENGINE WHERE THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND TRANS ARE LOCATED. IF YOU KNOW ABOUT SUBARUS LIKE YOU SAY YOU DO THEN YOU WOULD HAVE TO KNOW THAT YOUR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY OPERATES FROM A SLAVE CYLINDER WHICH IS HYDRAULIC AND COULD NOT BE ADJUTED. THIS MEANS AS THE CLUTCH DISC WEARS THE PEDAL IS AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTED TO MAINTAIN PROPER FREEPLAY. BEFORE YOU GO PASSING BLAME TO EVEYONE ELSE MAYBE YOU OUGHT TO READ A SERVICE MANUAL AND FIND OUT HOW EACH SYSTEM WORKS BEFORE YOU POINT FINGERS. SECONDLY THE PEDAL TRAVEL AND POSITION CHANGE AS TO WHERE IT GRABS AS THE CLUTCH WEARS SO HOW ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOU MAY HAVE WORN THE CLUTCH OUT DUE TO THE STYLE OF YOUR DRIVING? I.E. SLIPPING THE CLUTCH. NOT TO HIGH TECH I HOPE!! AND IF YOUR NOT HAPPY WITH ONE DEALER THERE ARE MANY MORE YOU CAN GO TO NO ONE FORCES YOU TO TAKE YOUR CAR THERE IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY. THIRDLY ANY TECHNICIAN ISNT GOING TO ADJUST YOUR CLUTCH PEDAL UNLESS HE WAS GOING TO GET PAID FOR IT! AND IT COULDNT BE DONE ON YOUR CAR EVEN IF YOU WANTED TO. SO BEFORE YOU GUYS BAD MOUTH AND BLAME DEALERS FOR NOT FIXING YOUR CARS YOU MUST KNOW IF IT WAS SO EASY TO DO YOUD BE FIXING YOURSELVes!!!!!!

I've had mixed experiences with Gerald. I bought my RS from them almost 3 years ago. The day I came to pick up my car, the salesman dented the fender as he tried to trip the alarm. They had a company (Dentstar?) come and fix it. Damn! I don't know how they did it, but the repair left a TON of swirl marks on the fender. I was pissed but not much I could do about it. Next, I complained that there was a whooshing noise coming from the passenger side window due to some misalignment with the door ( I checked the alignment myself and it varies by almost 1/2 inch from the driver's side window); I showed this to the service rep but this was not fixed. Later, I complained that the Driver's side window rattled on bumpy roads; they did something because I've got scratches on the window and it still rattles! Finally, I had the clutch master cylinder replaced. It didn't get fixed for over 2 weeks. They mentioned that the flywheel looked like it needed replacement. Unfortunately, I wasn't thinking when I ok'd the flywheel replacement. In the end, it cost me $1600 to get everything fixed. I took a look at my old flywheel and didn't notice anything wrong with. Double damn! I spent $300 on a new flywheel! The only good thing was that they replaced the O2 sensor for free and it cured my CEL. Yay.

I have had great experiences with Gerald's sales staff, and absolutely horrific experiences with their Service Department.

Everything is all smiles and kisses until something goes wrong, then they deny everything and lie to your face.

My advice is to avoid Gerald Subaru of Naperville, IL. It took me way to long to figure this out.
