Default What Kelvin is our stock 04 Halogen bulbs?

I heard it was about 4100k but I'm not too sure... I just bought an HID kit that is rated at 4300k and I'm wondering if it'll be too yellow. I want performance more than anything BUT I also want my lights to look good (pure white/tiny hint of blue). I'm comming from 6000k bulbs and they were pretty purple/blue/white. Can anybody post up some pics of 4300k HID's? Thanks for all your help. -Gene

I'm guessing the stock halogen bulbs are around 3000-3200K depending on the brand and voltage to the light. 4300K is pretty white, not much blue, but definitely much whiter than halogen

Here's my 4300K HIDs (Philips bulbs and ballasts) in Prodrive UK300s:

4300K is about as pure white as you can get. There will be very slight hints of yellow, but lighting will be far superior than your 6000K halogen bulbs.

As far as I remember, all HIDs have vastly superior output to standard halogen bulbs even up into the 8000k range

Of HIDs, I believe the most light is put out by 4300k/4500k and going down from there as you go up in temp.

I group 43 and 45 simply because lots of manuf.s tend to use them as the same.

My roommates 4300k Philips are really 4500k and my 4300k catz are true 4300k. His have more blue in them then mine did, and look exactly like they do in the pictures above.

^^^ He's lucky if he has the same light output as you. Mine are a white/yellow. There is a blueish tint when I start the car up but other than that... nothing, just white/yellow. I was expecting a pure white color, like the HID's that come stock on escalades, navigators, toyota prius's,is300.... but mine are hardcore yellow/white. Kinda sad but oh well. -Gene

Taken from the Automotive Lighting FAQ:

What is color shift?

The labled light color on an HID bulb is an average that it will maintain over 2-3000 hours. After passing around 100-500 hours the phenonmen "color shift" will take place. Color will change slightly from a yellowish tone to a crisper bluer tone. The magnitude of color shift will vary depending on brand, model and rated color. It is a very gradual change and unless paid close attention to, a customer might not notice. OEM 4100K Bulbs manufactured by Philips has been reported to have a more noticeable color shift than OEM 4100K Osram. OEM 4100K Bulbs manufactured by Philips has a colorshift of approx 250K after 500 hours, which will bring it to up to 4350K.
