Default The Koenigsegg didn't last long at the top; C&D tests Veyron; official fastest car.

I searched, and yeah there are Veyron threads, but this is news...

I got my November Car & Driver today. The Editor-in-Chief drove the Veyron at speed at Ehra-Lessien, VW's test track, the first journalist to do so, and the head of one of the more reliable print sources out there. I quote:

"I barely touched the car's top speed governor that was set at 253 mph (407.5 kilometers per hour) on that first lap, but on the second I held the car there for at least three of the back straight's five miles."

So it's official. The Koenigsegg has fallen to the Bugatti, and the bar has been raised to 253.

[ninja edit for teh smaller pic]

What is equally amazing is that at 253 mph, that three mile trip only takes about 40 seconds! Of course, the last stat in the databox:

Steady 253 mph.......................3mpg

Hope it comes with a big gas tank!

Peace,
P03w

PS: Yes. this top speed has been announced before, but this is the first independantly certified test, which is all that is credible in a world of shadetree supercar builders.

I read somewhere else that the Veyron can hold top speed for 12 minutes on a full tank of gas. So at top speed you will have to refuel every 50 miles.

Kinda seems dangerous to me.

I've been 180 and that seemed dangerous at the time.

16 cylanders and 4 turbos and 1000HP right? That thing is amazing, with that much power do you even need aerodynamics?

Oh well, at least I can admit it like a man.

But wait, did they use independent insturmentation, or was this just "verified" by the car's speed limiter?

Guess I'm a McLaren fanboi.
